Mackay and Whitsunday Life
Cold Rock is back next Friday, just in time for you to grab a cold ice cream and wander around the night markets at the Great Barrier Reef Festival, sit down by the lagoon, as well as enjoy the fireworks!
After a brief hiatus during the moving process, locals will be able to enjoy some of the best ice cream that Airlie Beach has to offer on the 6 August, as Tammy Smith opens the doors to her beautiful new ice creamery.
“In the middle of town on the famous Airlie Beach Lagoon – it’s in the best possible position for those enjoying the festival to come and enjoy some ice cream!” Tammy said.
“It’s going to be so quick and easy for people to get to us, and it’s going to be a really nice atmosphere with views over the lagoon, ocean and islands in the distance.”
The inside is going to be extravagant, with blue, red and black and then on the other wall a very blue and bright wall.
“It’s a beautiful watercolour, then the other wall is a wrap from tropical designs,” she said.
“Both draw the outside ocean and gardens into the shop!”
The plans for the new location are excellent: they’ll be doing milkshakes, thick shakes, smoothies, bottle drinks and can drinks, as well as new sorbet, gelato, ice cream, frozen yoghurt and even more to come; up to 64 flavours.
It’s been quite the process for Tammy, as they moved out from their old shop at the other end of town where Cold Rock had resided for over 20 years into their new digs that Tammy is now proud to call her own.
“We were bringing things across the street and some locals actually came up and helped us moving it in!” she said.
“We really wanted to thank them for that.”
The shop itself is a cherry on top of an ice-cream dream for Tammy, who recalls that it all came from nothing, when she had zero money and managed to pursue her lifelong dream of owning an ice creamery.
“It’s inspiration for those with a dream to fight and work for it, no matter how hopeless it may feel,” she said.
The new location is at Airlie Beach Lagoon on the corner in between Harry’s Corner Café and Wisdom on the edge of Airlie Creek Carpark in the centre of town, and will be open from Friday, 6 August.
