May 30, 2025

A much-loved local event is making its return to Dunes Harbour Beach. Tunes in the Dunes is back for another laid-back Saturday afternoon, bringing coastal vibes, live music, and a relaxed community feel to one of Mackay’s most scenic spots.

A crowd favourite in 2024, Tunes in the Dunes drew a wonderful mix of people — from those looking for something a little different, to families catching up, and friends gathering to enjoy a drink by the sea.

The oceanside setting made the perfect backdrop as live music filled the air, the sun dipped low, and guests arrived with picnic blankets, card games, and their favourite people to enjoy the dreamy atmosphere under fairy lights.

The first event of the season kicks off on Saturday, June 21st, from 2:30pm to 5:30pm, with a fresh new act: Zoey Mills & Leyon Milner — a genre-blending duo known for their Alt-Country, Folk, Pop, and Rock fusion. As passionate songwriters, the pair may even treat the crowd to some of their original music.

More than just an afternoon of great music, Tunes in the Dunes is a celebration of community and the easygoing coastal lifestyle. Go To Hell And Back At Airlie Beach Hotel

May 30, 2025

Since 1999 To Hell and Back have been rocking stages all over the country with their Meatloaf tribute act.

But this time, they are coming to the Airlie Beach Hotel. The band has undergone a few changes over the years, but the current lineup has been performing together for the past 13 years.

During this time the band have developed a strong chemistry and stage presence over this time creating an extraordinary Meatloaf tribute act. The band have gelled together over the years and Bass Player and Manager of the band Tom Travica, says if you close your eyes it’s like hearing the actual Meatloaf perform.

He said this is due to the frontman Gary and female lead Deb.

“He's got that tone and sound of meatloaf, it's uncanny really and our female lead has an amazing rock voice and is a great talent on stage,” said Tom.

“She really loves playing up there with Gary.”

Tom also expressed how the show is extremely interactive.

“It's a very interactive show, they'll jump out into the audience and get them involved,” he explained.

“They’ll go right out into the crowd, Gary might sit on the lap of some girls or Deb will grab onto a good-looking bloke and sing to him.”

Fans can expect a full-throttle trip through Meatloaf’s biggest hits, including every track from the iconic 1977 Bat Out of Hell album, including Paradise by the Dashboard Light, Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad, and You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth.

They also throw in a few songs from later albums including Dead Ringer and I’d Do Anything for Love to keep diehard fans happy.

What sets this tribute act apart from the rest is the attention to detail in creating the most authentic show possible.

Tom said they use no backing tracks, everything is live, and they also rehearsed the show for six months before debuting. They wanted the show to be perfect.

This will be the band’s first time bringing the Meatloaf show to town.

“I’ve told the band be prepared to be amazed,” added Tom.

“The atmosphere and environment are absolutely beautiful up there.”

With years of experience and standout performances at festivals and major events, the band has seen fans of all ages attend their shows.

“We have people anywhere from 18 to 80 come and see the show, and it's surprising seeing the young ones singing along with all the songs, I think wow I wouldn't have expected them to know these songs,” said Tom.

Tom’s message to Airlie Beach locals and visitors is simple, go along and see the show. From the first song you’ll be up dancing, singing and partying with the band and nobody leaves disappointed.

The Meatloaf tribute show will be a night to remember at the Airlie Beach Hotel, delivering a full-tilt rock experience that’s as authentic as it is entertaining.

Swan Lake Comes To Prossie

May 30, 2025

The Proserpine Entertainment Centre (PEC) will be hosting a free screening of the Australian premiere of Ballet Preljocaj’s Swan Lake on 14 & 15 June 2025, which was filmed during the exclusive Brisbane season at Queensland Performing Arts Centre’s (QPAC) Lyric Theatre.

Founded in 1985 by maverick French choreographer Angelin Preljocaj, the Aix-en-Provence-based Ballet Preljocaj last wowed audiences in Queensland in 2016 with the sell-out season of Snow White at QPAC and is world renowned for warping the experience of ballet.

The contemporary ballet company is fueled by Preljocaj’s propensity for collaboration, with a roll call of artistic partnerships boasting the likes of costumes by Jean Paul Gaultier and Azzedine Alaïa to scores by Thomas Bangalter (Daft Punk) and Nicolas Godin (Air).

Famed for his iconoclastic deconstruction of great story ballets, Preljocaj’s Swan Lake is a dystopian juxtaposition of corporate greed – in which Siegfried is the son of a wealthy property developer – and the pristine environment of the swans, which sees Odette and the Prince as eco-warriors battling the fossil-fueled industrialist Rothbart.

While he has leaned on some elements of Marius Pepita and Lev Ivanov’s original choreography, this is Swan Lake reimagined by Preljocaj with ‘audacity and respect' and challenges ballet norms with a run time of less than two hours with no interval.

To extend the reach of the Australian premiere season at QPAC, between Friday 13 and Sunday 15 June, 17 venues around the state will host special screenings of Ballet Preljocaj’s Swan Lake, with music by Queensland Symphony Orchestra conducted by Johannes Fritzsch, performed and recorded in Brisbane.

The Queensland-only broadcast will be free to attend at the Proserpine Entertainment Centre on both the 14 & 15 June at 11am.

Mackay Welcomes Pete Murray’s Exclusive Solo Acoustic Show

May 22, 2025

Live music fans have much to anticipate as acclaimed Australian singer-songwriter Pete Murray brings his eagerly awaited new tour to Mackay for a single performance on Wednesday, 18 June, at the Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre (MECC).

Murray’s most extensive tour to date will take him to numerous regional markets across Australia, many of which he has never previously visited, with a total of 56 shows scheduled throughout 2025.

While Murray needs little introduction as one of Australia’s most successful singer-songwriters, his upcoming tour will tick off a unique first after over two decades since he released his debut full length album The Game in 2001; namely, Murray’s first ever solo tour on home soil, armed with an acoustic guitar and a stunning back catalogue of hits to create his setlists from.

“I’ve never done a solo tour in this country before, so it’s been on the cards for a while,” said Murray.

“I’ve done it overseas and people love it - so it’s about time I did it in my own country. There will be some story telling of my songs, my life and career. The shows will be very intimate.”

Over the years, Murray has sold over 1.2 million albums, amassed hundreds of millions of streams, released three ARIA chart-topping albums, and boasts 17 ARIA Award nominations amongst multiple other wins and nominations.

Emerging with his debut full length album The Game in 2001, Murray’s breakout sophomore album Feeler in 2003 cemented his status as one of the all-time greats.

Now dominantly splitting his time in the studio and spending time with his family, Murray has also cultivated a stalwart reputation for his live show, from his own headline shows with his band at home and abroad, as well as performances with the likes of Missy Higgins, Icehouse, Rob Thomas and James Blunt to name a mere few.

Tickets for Pete Murray are selling fast. To secure your seats, please contact the MECC Box Office on (07) 4961 9777 or book online at themecc.com.au.

Rhythm And The Reef 2025 Lineup Announced

May 23, 2025

Celebrating their 5-year anniversary, Rhythm and the Reef brings a 5-star lineup for the 2025 event – with presale tickets going live 4pm, May 28.

Held in Mackay, Queensland, Rhythm and the Reef will play out over the August 22-23 weekend – including an exclusive VIP pre-party at McGuires Hotel on the Friday night, all ages music festival at Meadowlands Amphitheatre (Botanic Gardens) on the Saturday from 1-10pm and more to be announced.

Thanks to Naming Rights Partner FMS Group and radio partner Hit FM, this year’s lineup is headed by multiple award-winning Australian artist – Amy Shark.

According to Amy, she “can't wait to come back to Mackay for this great festival!”.

“I've been following it for a couple of years and am excited to get the chance to headline it," said Ms Shark.

Joining Amy at the Saturday music festival will be The Presets, The Jungle Giants, Hockey Dad, 360, Ruby Fields, No Money Enterprise and many more – as well as sustainable art, local stalls, licenced bars and VIP area.

Boo Seeka will be headlining the 18+ pre-party the night before, and tickets for both will be going on public sale May 29.

Co-Event Organiser James Slade said that those who sign up for the wait list will get first access to tickets on May 28, plus “entry into our pre-sale comp – which no one will want to miss”.

“If you head to our website home page and sign up to the pre-sale wait list, then you’re in for the chance to win money-can’t-buy experiences from the festival weekend,” Mr Slade said.

“We wanted to ramp things up for our 5-year anniversary, so as well as the comp – our pre-sale wait list will have exclusive access to tickets from just $99. While most festivals around the country are automatically $140+, we wanted to make ours as accessible as possible – and our pricing tiers also reflect that.”

Co- Event Organiser Michael Delaney said that this year’s lineup “is setting the tone for the event for years to come”.
“We see a shift in national artists wanting to perform at the event, which is great news for the region as Mackay is typically left of the touring runs,” Mr Delaney said.

“This has also sparked interest in international artists – which we are so excited for!”

This year’s festival weekend has drawn support from an extensive list of local and national organisations – including FMS Group, Hit FM, Daly Bay, Mackay Regional Council, City Fitness, Southern Cross Industrial Group, NASA Wear, Elegant Web Designs, Payne Print, Hawk Hire, Aussie Mackay, Munch n Grind, Chances House, Spencer Mining, ATCO and McGuires Hotel.

Based on a play by French writer Florian Zeller, The Father was released as a film in 2020, featuring Anthony Hopkins as an elderly father in the advanced stages of dementia. The film was nominated for six academy awards, as well as best actor (Hopkins) and best supporting actress (Olivia Colman).

The stage play is now coming to Kucom Theatre in Mackay for a two-week season in September, and director Victor Scott is looking for a cast that will do justice to this intriguing and challenging piece of theatre.

Scott, whose directing credits for Kucom include When the Rain Stops Falling (2021) and Things I Know To Be True (2023), will be holding auditions for The Father on Sunday I June, starting at 2pm. Audition packs are now available for download: https://bit.ly/4mlXlz3.

And, in the meantime...

Bob’s Your Auntie

Don’t forget to book your seats for Bob’s Your Auntie, a deliciously politically incorrect farce directed by Maureen Coleman which opens on Thursday 12 June for a two-week season. The play features some of Kucom’s favourite performers, including Gordon Lowe, Paul Vander Loos, Dennis Rozekrans and Michael Brennan, as well as some exciting new faces: Anzjuli Venter, Kai Hulme-Moir, Anthony Heron, Ross MacDonald, and Greccia Ipenza.

Bookings for Bob’s Your Auntie have been open for some time, but there are still some good seats available if you’re quick. Just visit the Humanitix bookings website: https://events.humanitix.com/bob-s-your-auntie

For more information about these and other events coming to Kucom Theatre, visit the Kucom website www.kucom.org.au or the Kucom Facebook page.

Family Fun Day Returns With More Rides, Characters And Carnival Magic

May 22, 2025

The countdown is on to one of Mackay’s most loved community events — and this year’s Family Fun Day is set to be bigger, brighter and more joyful than ever.

Hosted by Mackay Hospital Foundation and presented by Gardian, the much-anticipated event will roll into BB Print Stadium on Sunday 1 June from 10am to 2pm, bringing with it a full program of free rides, family entertainment and live performances.

Entry is $10 for children aged over two, with adults free — and the one-time ticket price covers all mechanical rides, jumping castles and face painting.

From the moment the gates open, young visitors will be met with the sights and sounds of Mad Animal Addiction, where they can get hands-on with farm animals, before heading off to burn some energy on the amusements provided by Hibble’s.

For the grown-ups, there’ll be a showcase of new vehicles, classic cars and the popular Jayden Enterprises Variety Bash car, adding extra spark to the day.

Children will be treated to stage performances by Dance Express as well as live shows from Bluey and Bingo at 10.30am, 11.30am and 12.30pm, followed by a photo opportunity at 1pm. Chase and Skye from Paw Patrol will be appearing throughout the day alongside other crowd-favourite characters.

Food vendors will be on site, including the Mackay North Rotary Food Van, Smokalicious, Dumpling Hut and Xpresso Red Coffee. Hibble’s will also dish up all the nostalgic carnival fare — from fairy floss to dagwood dogs.

Gardian is once again the presenting partner for the fifth year running, supported by platinum sponsor BMA. Silver sponsors include Mackay City Auto and S.H. Tait & Co, with bronze sponsors Jayden Enterprises, Payne Print, SCIG and Wilmar Sugar and Renewables.

Families are encouraged to bring a picnic blanket, hats and sunscreen and enjoy the action. Don’t miss the fun — Sunday 1 June at BB Print Stadium.

Magic Men Set To Bring Sizzle And Spectacle To Airlie Beach

May 22, 2025

Airlie Beach is in for an electrifying evening of dance, cheeky charm, and unforgettable entertainment when the Magic Men take the stage on June 4.

The one-night-only performance promises a spectacular blend of high-energy dance routines, audience participation, themed performances, and a dose of cheeky fun. It’s all wrapped up in an interactive show designed for an unforgettable Ladies Night Out.

Magic Men’s MC and host, Menno Van Kampen, said this isn’t the group’s first visit to Airlie Beach, but it will be a fresh experience with an all-new lineup and new routines.

“We’ve performed at Airlie before and it was a sold-out show,” Menno said. “This time, we’re bringing a completely different group of performers – we’ve got up to 40 guys in our roster – so the audience will see a whole new range of themed acts.”

Among the performers hitting the stage will be Jonathan, Micah, Sean, Jesse, Antoine, and Menno himself. Each brings their own unique style, from the Latin-American lover to the rugged outlaw, a gangsta theme and even fan-favourites like Ken (of Barbie fame) and Men in Black-inspired acts.

The show, which takes cues from the world of male revue and classic strip performances but with a modern, high-production twist is all about fun, fantasy, and flair.

“There's lots of laughs, a bit of sexiness, a bit of cheekiness, and just an all-round good Ladies Night Out,” Menno said.

“We often invite around 30 audience members on stage throughout the night whether they're getting married, having a birthday, we get those special guests up first, and then we look at getting other audience participants on the stage.

“We actually come through the audience and select those throughout night to try and give as many people a go on stage.

“We really do try and become interactive amongst the crowd during the show and also during the intermissions as well.”

Fresh off the back of performing at the world’s largest ladies night in Scandinavia attended by over 6,000 people, Magic Men are no strangers to large-scale productions, and they’re looking forward to bringing that same energy to the Airlie Beach Hotel.

The Airlie Beach performance is part of a three-stop tour, which also includes shows in Yeppoon and Mackay.

“Airlie Beach Hotel looks like a really good and fun place, and Airlie Beach in general is always awesome, so all the boys are really excited to hit the main stage up at the Airlie Beach Hotel and we're going to see you all on the fourth of June!”
