Dancing Queen Fever Hits Airlie Beach

Dancing Queen Fever Hits Airlie Beach

The vibrant spirit of live entertainment is set to shine once again across the Whitsundays, as the high-energy “SOS” tribute show brings the unforgettable music of ABBA to both locals and visitors this April. With two performances scheduled across the weekend, this event is more than just a concert—it’s a celebration of community, nostalgia, and the region’s growing cultural scene. For a destination like Whitsundays and the ever-popular Airlie Beach, events like this play a vital role in keeping the local economy and social calendar thriving. Tourism may be the backbone of the region, but it’s experiences like live music shows that give visitors a reason to stay longer, spend more, and connect with the area on a deeper level. “SOS” delivers a dazzling tribute to one of the world’s most beloved pop groups, combining iconic hits with the glitter and groove of 70s disco. With elaborate costumes, spot-on vocals, and infectious energy, the show offers a chance for audiences to relive the magic of a golden era in music. More importantly, it creates a shared experience—bringing together residents, hospitality workers, and tourists alike on the dance floor. Community events like this also highlight the Whitsundays as more than just a scenic getaway. They position the region as a lively cultural hub capable of hosting quality entertainment, helping to attract future acts and build a stronger arts presence. For local businesses—from restaurants to accommodation providers—the ripple effect is significant, with increased foot traffic and a boost in weekend trade. As the region continues to grow and evolve, embracing events like the “SOS” ABBA tribute ensures that the Whitsundays remain not only a beautiful place to visit, but an exciting place to be. Whether you’re a lifelong fan or simply looking for a fun afternoon or evening out, this is one event that promises to have the whole community saying, “Thank you for the music.” WHAT: The Australian ABBA Tribute Show: SOS WHEN: Saturday April 11 and Sunday April 12, 2pm-5.30pm WHERE: Airlie Beach Hotel Captions Photo source: Facebook

Next Film Night: Conclave on Screen

About: The Catholic Church is the largest Christian denomination with over 1.4 billion believers worldwide. The Pope, its supreme leader and head of the Vatican City, has passed away. Without time to mourn, Cardinal Lawrence is tasked with presiding over the conclave to elect a new pope. Over 100 powerful candidates from around the world gather, and the secret voting begins behind the doors of the Sistine Chapel. As the votes are split, Lawrence's anguish deepens as he is confronted with the numerous conspiracies, discrimination, and scandals simmering beneath the surface. And just before the birth of the new pope, a major incident breaks out that shakes the Vatican under high security...

Cast: Ralph Fiennes, John Lithgow, Stanley Tucci, Isabella Rossellini

Reviews:

Peter Bradshaw The Guardian: Ralph Fiennes is on sumptuous form as the deeply troubled Cardinal Lawrence at the centre of a murky Vatican plot. The result is a high-camp gripper, like the world’s most serious Carry On film.   4/5

Stephen Romi The Australian: What unfolds as the cardinals go to war with each other… is as tantalising as a murder mystery. The candidates become suspects, leaks happen, and questions arise about who is telling the truth.  4/5

Country Fest QLD Hits Bloomsbury

June 26, 2025

With Boots, Bulls & Big Tunes

Country Fest Queensland kicks off this weekend, and all roads lead to the Mackay region for one of the country’s most exciting regional events. Gates open Thursday for campers, with the festival firing up that evening with a boot-stompin’ Honky Tonk Kick-Off Party — setting the stage for a high-energy weekend of music, community, and good ol’ fashioned fun.

This year, Country Fest QLD is pulling out all the stops. From kids rides and food eating competitions (can anyone beat Jimmy Judge?) to the Best Mullet on Grounds competition, there's something for the whole family to enjoy.

But the real headline is the all-star lineup featuring a mix of American and Aussie country royalty including Randy Houser, Max McNown, Casey Barnes, James Johnston, Shannon Noll, Tori Darke, Wade Forster, and more, plus local legends like Luke Geiger, Mack Geiger, Route 33, and Shaun Diver.

Adding even more excitement, the festival will host the debut of the PBR Bull Ride on Saturday night — bringing edge-of-your-seat rodeo action that promises to be a major crowd favourite.

From live music and market stalls to great food and unforgettable moments under the stars, Country Fest QLD celebrates everything we love about life in the bush.

Two-day and single-day festival tickets are still available online or at the gate. Don’t miss your chance to be part of it! Head to Countryfest.com.au for tickets and more info.
