Airlie Beach locals have taken to Facebook in hopes of securing a performance from singer-songwriter Tones and I.
Many people may know the famous singer for her song ‘Dance Monkey,’ which helped raise her to fame in May 2019.
One particular fan of the artist, Kristel Risteski, set up the facebook page: ‘Tones and I comes to Paradise!’, in hopes of getting Tones and I to come to the beautiful Airlie Beach.
“She’s an amazing artist, she came from nothing, which has made a lot of people drawn to her, including myself.”
“She sings, writes, produces and composes all of her music, what else can you say about her? When someone as talented as her is in the area, why wouldn't we want her here?”
After seeing her a few weeks ago in Townsville during part of her Queensland stint, Krystal jumped on the Facebook trend, where fans create pages encouraging the artist to visit their area.
Getting Tones and I to Airlie Beach would be great for the community, as Airlie Beach often isn’t on the tour list for many artists:
“’I’m really excited to bring the community together to support something I believe is amazing,” Krystal added.
“Her music resonates deeply with younger audiences—especially kids. She’s become a bit of an idol for them.”
“Her spirit is so community-oriented; she rose from humble beginnings as a busker and made it on her own. Many young people look up to her story.”
Airlie Beach community members have rallied together in a bid to get the singer to come to the region, with the beautifully located Northerlies even raising their hand to host the concert if the singer accepts.
Please come and have some fun in the sun Tones and I, the Airlie Beach community are crossing their fingers!

“A wry, Jarmuschian musing on the human connections and possibilities that spark in the most unexpected places." – OBSERVER
Get ready for the next film night featuring Fremont, a poignant and gently humorous immigrant story.
The film follows Donya, a young Afghan who moved to Fremont, California after serving as a translator for the American army, spends her days working at a fortune cookie factory and her nights wide awake battling between her desire to rebuild her life and the overbearing guilt she carries within. In a bid to connect with the world, she sends an unconventional message through a fortune cookie.
Tinged with Jarmuschian deadpan humour, this sensitive immigrant tale packs a breakout performance by real-life refugee Anaita Wali Zada. Brought to life by the empathetic efforts of a talented cast and further distinguished by striking black-and-white cinematography, Fremont takes a thoughtful -- and wryly funny -- look at the immigrant experience.
Critics are raving that Fremont is, "A sweet, low-key charmer with an achingly sympathetic performance from Zada at its centre." - The Times
"Babak Jalali’s black-and-white indie drama strikes a beautiful tone with deadpan humour, elevated by Zada’s quietly poignant performance." – Variety
Catch this remarkable film on Friday, 4th October, 7:30 PM at the Cook Theatre at Ooralea’s CQU campus.
Tickets available at: www.trybooking.com/CVMTE
From heartfelt moments to deadpan humour, Fremont captures the complexities of starting over…book your tickets now!

Step into the world of Scandalous, where seductive allure meets jaw-dropping circus stunts. At the heart of this sultry circus cabaret is Shayla Waterson, an aerial artist who commands the stage with daring acts that leave the audience breathless and yearning for more. From the moment Shayla lifts herself onto the trapeze or wraps herself in chains, the air crackles with anticipation.
This isn’t your typical night out; it’s an 18+ spectacle that pushes boundaries and embraces the unexpected.
Shayla’s journey into the world of circus was anything but conventional. A self-taught aerialist, she started her training in her own backyard, determined to follow her dreams of performing high above the ground.
"I used to watch circus performances when I was little," she recalls. "I’d see the aerial artists and think, that’s what I want to do." Without formal training, she taught herself through videos and endless practice.
"I’d post my training videos on social media, and eventually, the circus reached out to me," she shares, reflecting on how her passion led to her big break.
Her rise through the circus world was rapid, first starting with a traditional family circus before joining the new Scandalous act which launched earlier this year.
"This is my third year on tour, and it still feels surreal sometimes," she admits.
With every performance, Shayla pushes her limits, constantly perfecting her craft.
"It’s not just about mastering the tricks—it’s about embracing the danger and the pain and turning it into something beautiful."
The chains, a newer apparatus for Shayla, add an element of raw danger and intensity, making each twist and turn more tantalising than the last.
"There’s no safety net, no mats. It’s all real. It’s risky, painful, but thrilling," Shayla said.
Every performance she delivers is an intoxicating blend of grace and danger, where every move feels like it’s on the edge of something forbidden. From daring aerial stunts to sultry, seductive moments, Shayla leaves nothing to the imagination yet keeps the audience on the edge of their seats, aching for what’s next.
Leading the performers is Jordan Lennon, a 6th generation circus performer and dance choreographer. He is passionate about encouraging the younger generation to follow their passion for dance and performance, with his own ballet routine a breathtaking part of Scandalous.
He invites audiences into a world where boundaries are pushed and connection takes centre stage.
"It’s something a little bit different," he says.
"Even though it’s an adult show, we don’t want to alienate anyone. There’s something here for everyone." The sultry cabaret doesn’t just tease with its provocative acts—it draws the audience into a shared experience.
"The theme throughout the show is connection—between the performers and the audience, and even between us on stage," Jordan adds. This energy flows through every act, ensuring that every 90-minute show feels unique, engaging, and memorable.
Scandalous brings together a cast of international stars, each with their own thrilling specialties. From Ethiopia, the contortionist and juggler deliver jaw-dropping performances that are as intimate as they are daring.
“They actually knew each other back in Ethiopia,” Jordan shares, “and it wasn’t until they both arrived here in Australia that they reconnected.” The magic of Scandalous comes from this mix of global talent, with performers hailing from Botswana, Italy, Hungary, and across Australia.
"We’re like family, and you can feel that bond on stage," Jordan explains.
The acts range from breathtaking aerial stunts to the thrilling danger of fire-eating. There’s no shortage of daring feats, with each performer bringing a fresh intensity and personal touch to their craft.
"With a mix of improvisation, no performance is identical. That’s what makes it so exciting."
Scandalous isn't just a show—it's an experience, where breathtaking stunts meet raw sensuality.
Prepare for a night of seduction, intrigue, and a little bit of danger, you never know what might happen next.

Bowen has been very busy in the school holidays with the Visitor Information Centre reporting a bumper start to the two-week break.
On Monday alone, the staff and volunteers welcomed more than 350 people to the centre.
Manager of Bowen Tourism and Business, Leanne Abernethy said a lot of people were staying in Bowen but there were also a lot of day-trippers from Airlie Beach.
“The Big Mango is always an attraction during the school holidays,” she said.
“There has also been a lot of families traveling north to go home after taking part in the Paul Bowman under 9’s rugby league carnival in Proserpine on the weekend.
“It’s great to see so many people visiting our hidden gem at the top of the Whitsundays with eight secluded beaches, great bushwalks, a free water park for the kids, an historic jetty and the oldest cinema in Queensland.
“We pride ourselves on our country hospitality, so you won’t be disappointed if you decide to make a trip to Bowen in the holidays.
“And, of course, we have a great range of local produce and Bowen merchandise at the Visitor Information Centre, as well as delicious mango sorbet on offer.”
There are so many things to do in Bowen, it is not just a place to pass through for lunch.
It is definitely worth considering spending more time in Bowen these school holidays.

Organised by the Whitsunday Old Iron Restorers Club, the event is run by volunteers and member Lyn Burke said there will be numerous things to do on the day.
“The tractor pull is going to be entertaining and there's free events for the children to keep them occupied,” said Lyn.
“The Pioneer Valley Machinery Preservations Society Rally are brining all their stationary engines, really old engines that will be running and going, I think it'll be a vehicle-lovers paradise, to be truthful!”
One of the engines on display is from 1908, and it still runs today!
There will also be face painting, a train ride and a petting zoo to keep all the kids entertained.
Experienced judges will be present and awards will be given to overall car and bike winners.
There will also be an opportunity to vote in the people’s choice category.

The Mackay & District Orchid Society has been in full bloom over the past few months, hosting successful events and supporting the local community. In July, their Winter Orchid Show at the Mackay & District Senior Citizens' Centre drew a vibrant crowd, with a stunning display of orchids.
The Society also teamed up with the Pioneer River Orchid & Plant Association to donate funds to YIRS, helping homeless youth in Mackay. They followed this up with a charming Father’s Day plant display at Bunnings.
On September 7th, new members gathered at Orchids Mackay for an informative workshop on growing and caring for orchids, complete with a sausage sizzle and sweets for a laid-back finish. The following weekend, the club attended the Orchid Extravaganza in Queens Park, offering plant accessories and a raffle.
Looking ahead, the big Spring Orchid Show is set for October 12th and 13th at the Senior Citizens’ Centre. For just $2 admission, visitors can enjoy a spectacular orchid display, potting demonstrations, and grab a tea or coffee with homemade treats.
The next general meeting is on September 19th, and all orchid enthusiasts are welcome to attend.
Mackay & District Orchid Society hosts workshops, shows, and fundraisers for the community to enjoy. Photos supplied
