Beatlemania Comes To Proserpine For One-Night-Only Celebration

Beatlemania Comes To Proserpine For One-Night-Only Celebration

Get ready to “Twist & Shout” as Beatlemania On Tour brings its internationally acclaimed production to the Proserpine Entertainment Centre on Sunday 26th April 2026 at 7.30pm, for one night only. Since its launch in 2009, the Australian-based show has built a formidable global reputation, selling out performances across North America, Europe, South Africa, the Middle East, Asia and New Zealand. After a decade away from Australia’s east coast, the production is now returning with a high-energy tribute to the music that defined a generation. Audiences can expect a two-hour audio-visual spectacular featuring more than 40 of the greatest hits by The Beatles, performed live in their original keys with meticulous attention to detail. Replica costumes, period instruments and theatrical lighting combine to recreate the look and sound of the 1960s, capturing the spirit of the world’s most influential band. The setlist reads like a greatest-hits time capsule, including classics such as Hey Jude, All You Need Is Love, Yellow Submarine, Let It Be, Twist & Shout, Yesterday, Come Together, Get Back, Help!, Eleanor Rigby and Here Comes the Sun, among many others. Behind the production is a cast of seasoned musicians, including Zachary Coombs, who performs the role of John Lennon. Coombs’ connection to the music runs deeper than most. Named after Zak Starkey, son of Ringo Starr, he grew up in a musical household influenced by jazz, rock and 90s pop. He first picked up the guitar as a teenager before discovering The Beatles at 15 after receiving their 1 compilation album. “I fell in love with every single song,” Coombs recalled, describing the moment as a turning point that led him to explore the band’s entire catalogue. After years touring internationally as a solo cruise ship performer, Coombs joined Beatlemania in 2014, later stepping into the role of John Lennon. He has also performed as Paul McCartney and George Harrison in earlier productions, drawing on what he describes as “the magic within the music itself.” He says the key to portraying Lennon lies in understanding the balance of musicianship and attitude. “If the musicians are having fun on stage, it becomes infectious,” Coombes said. The show also features fellow performers portraying Ringo Starr and the rest of the iconic line-up, with attention to every musical and visual detail. For Coombs and the cast, the appeal of Beatles music lies in its universality, with songs built on themes of love, peace and connection that continue to resonate across generations. “This is more than a concert,” organisers say. “It’s a celebration of music history.” Tickets are available now. PATHWAYS TO PERFORMANCES IN 2025

December 5, 2024

The Friends of the Mackay Entertainment & Convention Centre (MECC) are pleased to announce the Pathways to Performance program will be delivered in 2025, with funding support by BMA and Glencore Hail Creek Mine.
Operating since 2011, Pathways to Performance is a funding program designed to assist schools with the financial costs associated with students accessing cultural opportunities at the MECC.
Since its inception, the program has assisted more than 19,000 students through the payment of transportation, and in some instances, ticketing. The news was announced at the annual MECC Educators’ Launch, which was recently hosted in the MECC’s Lynette Denny Space.
At the event, more than 60 educators enjoyed a sneak preview of the performances that are open to the funding program in 2025.
Mayor Greg Williamson said sponsorship from BMA and Glencore Hail Creek Mine will benefit schools greatly.
“This funding program has assisted 19,571 students since 2011. This is an incredible achievement of the Friends of the MECC, and would not have been possible without generous sponsors like BMA and Glencore Hail Creek Mine,” Mayor Williamson said.
“Without the Pathways to Performance program, many schools simply could not afford the costs associated with attending cultural events at the MECC,” he said.
“It’s wonderful to have these sponsors on board for another year.”
The program has seen numerous sponsors over the years, including financial support by The Friends of the MECC themselves.
Mayor Greg Williamson said the Pathways to Performance program was one of many examples of why the Friends of the MECC are such a valuable volunteer group to Mackay’s arts community.
“The Friends of the MECC have been successfully delivering volunteer services for 37 years.
“The Pathways to Performance program is one of many things this group does for our community.”
Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal also announced their continued support of DBCT Kids’ Theatre Season at the MECC Educator’s Launch, with a 2025 and 2026 partnership.
“BMA, Glencore Hail Creek Mine, and Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal have been supporting Mackay’s arts community for many years. It’s wonderful to welcome these sponsors back,” Mayor Williamson said.
The 2025 MECC Season will be launched to the wider community in the coming weeks, with the MECC’s MECCmas promotion scheduled to take place from 1-12 December.

November 28, 2024

On the evening of Friday, 15 November, an abundance of imagination and creativity flooded the walls, halls, and floors of the Proserpine Museum with the exquisite talents of both novice and professional artists showcased for the community to enjoy.

A spectacular grand opening, the evening staged the debut of the 2024 Accomplished and Emerging Artists Exhibition to celebrate and commend the talents of the Whitsunday region. Councillor John Collins led the official proceedings and opened the event where he was gratefully gifted a wonderful piece of artwork painted especially for him by Dawn Pearce - the driving force responsible for making the exceptional evening possible.

“Each piece on display is a testament to the passion and vision of the artists who’ve poured their hearts into their work and some of them are seasoned artists, while others are just starting out – which they should be very proud of,” shared Cr John Collins.

The 2024 exhibition has been described as a magical mix of mediums with fabric art, painted pieces, basket weaving, jewellery, woodwork, and photography included in the showcase. Across each individual piece, the passion and talents of every artist comes alive, especially in the case of emerging artists where audiences can see a wonderful display of promise.

Dawn Pearce holds a world of teaching experience extending over three decades where she has provided countless artists with the amazing opportunity to exhibit their talents for others to see. An accomplished art teacher, her passion for sharing other people’s talents draws from her love for seeing art flourish, whilst proudly showing onlookers the potential of artists within her community.

The Proserpine Museum warmly welcomes the community to visit the showcase for themselves and witness the magical talents of their neighbours. The beautiful exhibition will be on display until Tuesday 17 December, and with so much to admire, its well worth to visit more than once.

Tusk Brings Fleetwood Mac Magic To Airlie Beach

November 21, 2024

Prepare to embark on a magical, musical journey back in time to the golden era of rock as Tusk, the Storybook Tribute to Fleetwood Mac, brings their dazzling show to the Airlie Beach Hotel for two wonderful and memorable performances next weekend. Renowned for their charm, character, and class, Tusk delivers a powerful homage to the iconic band that defined a generation, and on both Saturday 30 November, and Sunday 1 December, Tusk will illuminate the Airlie Beach Hotel from 2pm with audiences sure to be singing and dancing well into the late afternoon!

Penni Jones takes centre stage as the infamous Stevie Nicks, with a spectacularly authentic performance channelling the true essence of the rock queen herself. Backing her is an extraordinary lineup of Dalys Timpanaro as Christine McVie, James Towers as Lindsay Buckingham, Rob Brens as Mick Fleetwood, and Grant Canterbury as John McVie, each bringing their own flair to recreate the magnificent magic of Fleetwood Mac.

“Collectively we share decades of experience from various cover bands in the 90s, 00s, and now,” explained Penni.

“We’ve had tours of Australia and the world doing backing vocals for the country's greatest artists, cruise ship shows, and European tours in various original acts.”

Founded in 2015, Tusk began with Penni’s vision of crafting a show extending far beyond traditional tribute performances, opting instead for a more interactive and immersive experience. With meticulous attention to detail and show-stopping renditions, audiences will find themselves swept back in time to Fleetwood Mac’s heyday as Tusk ignites one of their favourite stages.

“The Airlie Beach Hotel is our favourite part of Airlie Beach, of course - what an amazing venue - bringing the country’s best shows to a place that has such a beautiful and warm vibe,” shared Penni.

“Everyone is on Airlie Beach time and is always happy, welcoming, and relaxed.”

Attendees can expect all the crowd-pleasers, plus a few surprises as the terrific tribute band graces the region for a third time.

“When the band plays, it becomes a dance party, including a drum solo, and we can’t wait to get up there and share our show with the community and The Pub!

I personally look forward to getting out in the crowd again and having a Fleetwood Mac dance floor like our last show (2023).”

With standout performances of tracks like ‘Edge of 17’ and ‘The Chain’, Tusk will make dreams come true for Fleetwood Mac fans for a weekend of nostalgia, and fantastic vibes!

Don’t miss Tusk at the Airlie Beach Hotel - where the spirit of Fleetwood Mac will come alive and the dance floor won’t stop until the last note fades - book your table now!
