70’s & 80’s Band Return For The Pub’s 56th Birthday

May 2, 2024

Returning to The Pub, Airlie Beach Hotel after last year’s birthday success, is ‘Back To The 70’s & 80’s Band’ who took the crowd by storm and brought good cheer to all who attended.

This year The Pub is celebrating its 56th birthday and they’re hoping to replicate last year’s success, inviting the whole community to come along and celebrate once again.

It’s the second time at The Pub for highly-acclaimed ‘Back To The 70’s & 80’s Band’, and founder, performer and front man Alexander Hell said he is excited to bring the show back after it being so well received last year.

With a guitarist, a drummer and three performers, the band members change costumes over 20 times replicating a variety of different legendary musicians from yesteryear.

Audiences can expect parody acts from the iconic eras, lots of laughs and first-class entertainment.

The show is described as a comedy cabaret where audiences are given a vibrant and exciting rendition of some of their favourite songs, combined with fast-paced humour and flamboyant theatrical displays.

People are taken back to the 70’s and 80’s and treated to tunes from artists they love like ABBA, The Proclaimers, Tina Turner, Village People, Brian Ferry, Queen, Meatloaf, and some great disco tracks.

You’ll be laughing at all the references from the good to the bad, that came from the iconic era, from the leg warmers, spandex, fingerless gloves and of course that now legendary hair style.

“It’s all about the F word – fun!” Alexander shared.

The band pay homage to some of the biggest stars over the decades, they pay tribute to them with dress-ups and tongue-in-cheek humour.

Alexander reminisces on the eras, saying he recalls the flair and the way mirror balls changed the way music was made.

“It’s iconic and it’s been lost these days.”

All ages are welcome, it’s time to show the younger crowd that there’s more to music than high-tech beats – it’s all about the rhythm.

Don’t miss this one-of-a-kind performance at The Pub.

The Australian ABBA tribute show are no strangers to the Whitsunday crowd, they are regulars at the Airlie Beach Hotel, sometimes performing three times a year, and the crowd here keep drawing them back.

SOS The Australian ABBA tribute show will be playing at the Airlie Beach Hotel on Mother’s Day.

With Mother’s Day food specials and a free bottle of Rose with every table booking, there is guaranteed fun, dancing, and good vibes - so what’s stopping you?

Band Manager Sam Bennett was asked what he would like to say to all the mums ahead of the performance and he said, quite simply, ‘Thank You For The Music’.

He thanks the parents of his generation because he believes his generation’s love for ABBA comes from their parents playing ABBA to them.

Sam says he loves seeing crowds of all ages at the shows, from people that have seen the real ABBA perform live to the younger generations who have heard of ABBA from the film Mamma Mia and from Tik Tok.

The band love seeing the crowd loving ABBA just as much as they do.

Blues, Folk & Country Music Kickstart Your Weekend With Matty Angell

April 24, 2024

Performing this Friday and Sunday at the Jubilee Tavern please welcome Matt Angell.

Originally from the Pilbara region in Western Australia, he can’t stay away from the Whitsundays and had been visiting the region since 2001 before finally deciding to settle down here.

Throughout his adult life, he has earned a living through his music.

“Music is my art, my expression and my dreams... without all three, life is pretty pointless,” he said.

Matty has always loved music, but originally he only wanted to be a guitar player, he had no desire to sing.

“But I was always writing songs from the very beginning. So, then I thought I'd better start singing to give them a life!”

A regular at the Airlie Beach Music Festival, Matty has performed at the event six times.

This year, he will also be entertaining the crowds at the ‘Winter Moon Festival’ for the first time and said he is looking forward to playing some tracks there.

Matty describes his music as a mixture of blues, folk and county spiced with a little bit of rock now and then, his up-beat rhythm and feel-good vibe is the perfect way to kickstart your weekend.

He added “I have a new song being released online on the 3rd of May, as part of a collection of lost and forgotten tracks from the past that span my entire musical career.”

“They'll be rolled into a full album later in the year and then everything will make sense...stay tuned.”

Step Right Up To Hudson's Circus Extravaganza!

April 24, 2024

By Amanda Wright

Ladies and gentlemen, children of all ages, get ready for the greatest show to hit Mackay this year! Hudson's Circus is in town, and it's time to experience the magic, thrill, and laughter under the big top.

Led by the dynamic duo of Goldie the Clown and Ringmistress Jane De Goldi, Hudson's Circus promises a traditional circus experience with a modern twist that will leave you breathless and begging for more. With over 10 years of experience touring the country, this circus knows how to captivate audiences of all ages, and as they explain it, the experience starts as soon as you purchase your ticket.

With showbags and memorabilia, slushies and carnival-style food, the evening abounds with magical memory-making moments.

Goldie, the iconic clown who once graced the streets of Dreamworld as its beloved mascot, brings his unique blend of humour and charm to the ring, ensuring plenty of smiles and howls of laughter. And Jane, the talented ringmistress, guides the audience through a mesmerising journey filled with awe-inspiring acts and heartwarming moments.

But what sets Hudson's Circus apart is its commitment to family entertainment. In fact, it’s a family show right at its heart. Not many people would know that the iconic clown and dazzling ringmistress are husband and wife, and their two children are also an integral part of the circus.

"We ran away from Dreamworld to join the circus, and we've never looked back,” Goldie laughed.

When the couple met, Jane played the character of Spongebob Square Pants at the theme park.

“It's a beautiful lifestyle, travelling the country as a family and spending every day together,” Jane added.

So, what can you expect from Hudson's Circus? Picture this: Majestic Welsh Mountain Ponies prancing gracefully, Dromedary Camels strutting their stuff, and the Flipping Disc Dogz wowing the crowd with their incredible stunts. Hudson’s have kept the tradition alive with animal acts in its performance with the promise that their four-legged stars are treated as well (if not better than) their human co-stars. It's a menagerie of talent and excitement that will leave you on the edge of your seat, with jugglers, talented trapeze and rope artists, illusions and thrilling motorbike stunt riders.

And let's not forget the modern twists that keep Hudson's Circus ahead of the curve. From state-of-the-art AI technology in the clown car to Jane's pioneering role as a female ringmaster, this circus is always pushing boundaries and redefining what it means to be under the big top.

But the real magic of Hudson's Circus lies in its ability to transport audiences to a world of wonder and imagination. As Jane puts it, "Come with us through the magical world of circus," and you'll find yourself entranced by the spectacle unfolding before your eyes.

So, gather your friends and family, grab your tickets at the door, and get ready for an unforgettable journey into the enchanting world of Hudson's Circus. With its unrivalled blend of tradition, innovation, and heart, this is one show you won't want to miss!

Find Your Fashion Favourites At Sweet Repeats This Sunday!

April 19, 2024

After a very successful launch last year, Sweet Repeats – Pre-Loved Clothing Market returns this Sunday!

With a huge selection of high-quality, gently worn clothing and accessories, Sweet Repeats is a market aimed at promoting sustainability, affordability, and community engagement, offering people a budget-friendly shopping experience that’s kind to the planet without compromising on style or budget.

For Healthy Clean and Green owner/manager Wendy Steindl, the concept for the market originally stemmed from a purely environmental awareness side, however the success of the first Sweet Repeats and then it’s sister market Trash & Treasure, has proven that with the cost of living pressures, the markets are resonating to a much broader range of the Mackay community and these markets are something that the community wants!

Selling and purchasing second hand items reduces waste, slows fast fashion and minimizes our carbon footprint. By actively extending the lifecycle of an item we can collectively make a significant impact on the number of things being sent to landfill, which in turn has a positive effect on the environment.

Sweet Repeats is a fantastic opportunity to find high-quality items at affordable prices. Customers can discover items that they need or want without compromising on their budget and stallholders can turn pre-loved items that they no longer use into cash, which for some could help to ease financial pressures.

Healthy Clean and Green advocates always choosing better choice for the environment and as such Sweet Repeats is proud to be a low-waste event. We are encouraging customers and stallholders to bring along their own water bottles, coffee cups and shopping bags and a ‘waste station’ will be set up on site offering composting and recycling options. Local favourite MAD Cow Coffee will be in attendance and will be offering a ‘mug library’ that people can utilise if they forget to BYO.

It’s been a fantastic opportunity for the students of Proserpine State High School to gain experience in running every element of their own play.

This is the first time a school production has been entirely student run and Co-Creator Mia Vloedmans expressed how this allowed them to have greater flexibility.

“Being student run it pretty much just gave us the freedom to do whatever we wanted with it,” said Mia.

“We had a student point of view for it, so that was really good as well.”

Executive Producer Jacob Williams explained that the production is run by the student led Seagrass Theatre and Music Company and he hopes juniors will continue it when himself and other seniors leave the school.
Before the opening night, choir member Maddie Davies said “I’m probably most excited for the actual play, because we'll be able to perform it and I think it's turning out really good so far.”

“I'm just excited for everyone to see it!” she exclaimed.

The Seagrass Theatre Company raised a significant amount of money through sponsorships and parent donations.

This has allowed the students to produce a production of high quality and industry standard.

The production has also enabled the students to gain experience behind-the-scenes, playing in the orchestra, working in lighting or on the high industry standard sound boards.

Head of Promotions and Producer, Allegra Bradley said there are still tickets available and she would love you to see what they’ve been working on. Don’t miss it!

Suzi Quatro’s Guitarist Nat Allison And Band Performing In Whitsundays

April 18, 2024

Since birth, all Nat Allison has wanted to do is perform.

Growing up in the 80’s only amplified this, she would see all the 80’s rock stars with their long hair and incredible guitar solos, wanting to be up on stage right alongside them.

This inspiring era has now culminated in her own show called ‘Rock Chick’ which she brings to The Pub later this month.

But it has been a long and exciting career that has led Nat to this point.

At the age of 12, Nat’s father realised she was taking music seriously and moved the family to Melbourne so she could be surrounded by better teachers.

Then at the young age of 13, when Nat took on her first role as lead singer in Melbourne, the rest of the band were over 30!

When she was 18, Nat worked with Australian songwriter and producer, Mike Chapman.

A few years down the line Mike was writing songs for Suzi Quatro and asked if Nat would like to go to London to play on Suzi’s record.

“He loved my guitar playing and he knew that it would be what he needed to achieve with the up-and-coming album,” said Nat.

From here, Nat and Suzi built a relationship and stayed in contact after the album was recorded.

Years later Suzi was in touch with Nat regarding an upcoming festival in Australia and, as she decided not to bring her band with her from London, she asked if Nat could put a band together.

Since then, Suzi has used that same band for all of her Australian shows and they have performed in Japan and Canada too.

As a performer Nat said she has grown and learned a lot from the experience.

“It's just been a great learning experience for me too. Because obviously, like I have all throughout my career, you're constantly learning through observation, as well as your own personal practice. It's been wonderful in that sense,” Nat explained.

“She's just such a fantastic performer, she puts together a really great show and the crowds just absolutely love her.”

Learning from the best and now performing like the best, Nat Allison and her band are bringing their exceptional talent to The Pub, Airlie Beach Hotel.

Nat and her band are set to bring the audience the sensational ‘Rock Chick’ show, getting the crowd pumping with a range of classics spanning four different decades.

From Katy Perry to Tina Turner this four-piece band will blow your socks off!

This will be the band’s first time in the Whitsundays and they are looking forward to getting some sunshine and meeting the people in this great region.

RebelQuin Playing Soon At The Jubes

April 18, 2024

Every Friday night at 6pm the Jubilee Tavern comes alive with the sweet tunes from a local and talented musician.

On Friday 10 May, The Jubes welcomes RebelQuin to the stage.

Originally from Melbourne, RebelQuin moved to the area 12 years ago.

From a young age she knew she wanted a career in music.

“I have studied music, it has stayed with me, I have always felt passionate about music, and I have never travelled without an instrument, but never felt confident till my 30's to make it a full-time career,” she said.

RebelQuin has performed numerous gigs at the Airlie Beach Music Festival, as well as in venues up and down the east coast of Australia.

She captivates her audiences with her unique blend of blues and indie rock.

Her pure love for music is contagious and she says “music connects us all together and is always there for us through the highs and lows.”

“If I am going through a rough time, there is always a song that makes me feel and I know if that singer or songwriter can get through this, so can I, it reminds us we belong and that we are not alone at all.”

“This is also what I love about performing, if I can connect to just one person and make them not feel alone, I have done my job.”

Aside from performing RebelQuin is also working on an EP titled ‘Outta My Mind’ and it’s coming soon.
