After a very successful launch last year, Sweet Repeats – Pre-Loved Clothing Market returns this Sunday!
With a huge selection of high-quality, gently worn clothing and accessories, Sweet Repeats is a market aimed at promoting sustainability, affordability, and community engagement, offering people a budget-friendly shopping experience that’s kind to the planet without compromising on style or budget.
For Healthy Clean and Green owner/manager Wendy Steindl, the concept for the market originally stemmed from a purely environmental awareness side, however the success of the first Sweet Repeats and then it’s sister market Trash & Treasure, has proven that with the cost of living pressures, the markets are resonating to a much broader range of the Mackay community and these markets are something that the community wants!
Selling and purchasing second hand items reduces waste, slows fast fashion and minimizes our carbon footprint. By actively extending the lifecycle of an item we can collectively make a significant impact on the number of things being sent to landfill, which in turn has a positive effect on the environment.
Sweet Repeats is a fantastic opportunity to find high-quality items at affordable prices. Customers can discover items that they need or want without compromising on their budget and stallholders can turn pre-loved items that they no longer use into cash, which for some could help to ease financial pressures.
Healthy Clean and Green advocates always choosing better choice for the environment and as such Sweet Repeats is proud to be a low-waste event. We are encouraging customers and stallholders to bring along their own water bottles, coffee cups and shopping bags and a ‘waste station’ will be set up on site offering composting and recycling options. Local favourite MAD Cow Coffee will be in attendance and will be offering a ‘mug library’ that people can utilise if they forget to BYO.

Proserpine State High School’s production of ‘Joseph And The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat’ opened to hundreds of enthusiastic attendees on Thursday evening.
This entirely student-led production was held at the school’s $11 million multi-purpose Performing Arts Centre and will continue to run on Friday evening, Saturday afternoon and Saturday evening.
Almost 100 students from years 7 to 12 took part in the production, taking the lead in everything from performing on stage to behind-the-scenes directing, producing, designing, technical and playing the music.
If you haven’t purchased your ticket yet, make sure you head down to the school this weekend to see local students perform in this humorous and light-hearted production.

It’s been a fantastic opportunity for the students of Proserpine State High School to gain experience in running every element of their own play.
This is the first time a school production has been entirely student run and Co-Creator Mia Vloedmans expressed how this allowed them to have greater flexibility.
“Being student run it pretty much just gave us the freedom to do whatever we wanted with it,” said Mia.
“We had a student point of view for it, so that was really good as well.”
Executive Producer Jacob Williams explained that the production is run by the student led Seagrass Theatre and Music Company and he hopes juniors will continue it when himself and other seniors leave the school.
Before the opening night, choir member Maddie Davies said “I’m probably most excited for the actual play, because we'll be able to perform it and I think it's turning out really good so far.”
“I'm just excited for everyone to see it!” she exclaimed.
The Seagrass Theatre Company raised a significant amount of money through sponsorships and parent donations.
This has allowed the students to produce a production of high quality and industry standard.
The production has also enabled the students to gain experience behind-the-scenes, playing in the orchestra, working in lighting or on the high industry standard sound boards.
Head of Promotions and Producer, Allegra Bradley said there are still tickets available and she would love you to see what they’ve been working on. Don’t miss it!

Since birth, all Nat Allison has wanted to do is perform.
Growing up in the 80’s only amplified this, she would see all the 80’s rock stars with their long hair and incredible guitar solos, wanting to be up on stage right alongside them.
This inspiring era has now culminated in her own show called ‘Rock Chick’ which she brings to The Pub later this month.
But it has been a long and exciting career that has led Nat to this point.
At the age of 12, Nat’s father realised she was taking music seriously and moved the family to Melbourne so she could be surrounded by better teachers.
Then at the young age of 13, when Nat took on her first role as lead singer in Melbourne, the rest of the band were over 30!
When she was 18, Nat worked with Australian songwriter and producer, Mike Chapman.
A few years down the line Mike was writing songs for Suzi Quatro and asked if Nat would like to go to London to play on Suzi’s record.
“He loved my guitar playing and he knew that it would be what he needed to achieve with the up-and-coming album,” said Nat.
From here, Nat and Suzi built a relationship and stayed in contact after the album was recorded.
Years later Suzi was in touch with Nat regarding an upcoming festival in Australia and, as she decided not to bring her band with her from London, she asked if Nat could put a band together.
Since then, Suzi has used that same band for all of her Australian shows and they have performed in Japan and Canada too.
As a performer Nat said she has grown and learned a lot from the experience.
“It's just been a great learning experience for me too. Because obviously, like I have all throughout my career, you're constantly learning through observation, as well as your own personal practice. It's been wonderful in that sense,” Nat explained.
“She's just such a fantastic performer, she puts together a really great show and the crowds just absolutely love her.”
Learning from the best and now performing like the best, Nat Allison and her band are bringing their exceptional talent to The Pub, Airlie Beach Hotel.
Nat and her band are set to bring the audience the sensational ‘Rock Chick’ show, getting the crowd pumping with a range of classics spanning four different decades.
From Katy Perry to Tina Turner this four-piece band will blow your socks off!
This will be the band’s first time in the Whitsundays and they are looking forward to getting some sunshine and meeting the people in this great region.

Every Friday night at 6pm the Jubilee Tavern comes alive with the sweet tunes from a local and talented musician.
On Friday 10 May, The Jubes welcomes RebelQuin to the stage.
Originally from Melbourne, RebelQuin moved to the area 12 years ago.
From a young age she knew she wanted a career in music.
“I have studied music, it has stayed with me, I have always felt passionate about music, and I have never travelled without an instrument, but never felt confident till my 30's to make it a full-time career,” she said.
RebelQuin has performed numerous gigs at the Airlie Beach Music Festival, as well as in venues up and down the east coast of Australia.
She captivates her audiences with her unique blend of blues and indie rock.
Her pure love for music is contagious and she says “music connects us all together and is always there for us through the highs and lows.”
“If I am going through a rough time, there is always a song that makes me feel and I know if that singer or songwriter can get through this, so can I, it reminds us we belong and that we are not alone at all.”
“This is also what I love about performing, if I can connect to just one person and make them not feel alone, I have done my job.”
Aside from performing RebelQuin is also working on an EP titled ‘Outta My Mind’ and it’s coming soon.

With Artspace Mackay’s annual Rock, Paper, Scissors Art and Design Market taking a hiatus in 2024, Wisely Wine and Food Day is set to welcome an influx of creative exhibitors.
Artspace Mackay Director Tracey Heathwood said this year, the team would focus their efforts on professional development programs for local artists and artisans.
“By investing in professional development opportunities for our local artists and artisans in the off year, we hope to attract a larger number of unique, high quality local artisans to our curated art market going forward,” Ms Heathwood said.
“Unfortunately, attendance numbers have been waning in recent years, especially with so many quality markets on offer across the region.
“We have chosen to invest in this event and our artistic community this year, so that we can deliver a bespoke event that is a true showcase of our region’s creativity and artistic talent.”
In 2024, prospective art market stallholders are encouraged to apply for a place at the 2024 Wisely Wine and Food Day.
Festivals and Events Coordinator Sarah Porter said the Festival of Arts drawcard had been evolving over the last few years and would continue to do so.
“Wisely Wine and Food Day is so much more than a music festival – we really want to incorporate more experiences for visitors,” Ms Porter said.
“In 2024 we will have more exciting dining experiences, roving artists, children’s performances and we especially want to grow the creative offerings in the market area,” she said.
“We would love to see a larger representation of local artisans at this major event.
“Annually, the Wisely Wine and Food Day attracts up to 25,000 people, so it is a wonderful opportunity for local artists and artisans to reach new customers/audiences.”

Get ready for another weekend of fantastic live music, loud and free at The Pub, Airlie Beach Hotel.
With the dynamic and engaging Australian Shania Twain Show you’ll be belting out lyrics like never before.
This incredible tribute band is fronted by lead singer, Ally Friendship, who said she has been performing from the age of 14 with her sister and always knew she wanted a career in music.
She has always loved music and chased that feeling her entire life.
Despite admiring Shania’s songs and being told she looked and sounded like the megastar, at first Ally never thought of performing her songs for a living.
That all changed when in early 2020 she was approached and asked to perform in a one-off Shania Twain tribute show.
With the show’s organiser having no intention of continuing it, Ally and her band took the opportunity and decided to start performing Shania Twain hits regularly.
‘We could see something really good, and thought someone should continue it,’ said Ally.
Their first show was a sell-out, and they have been riding the wave of success ever since.
The Australian Shania Twain Show has been performing for almost 5 years and has recently reinvigorated the show to launch a new era with this powerhouse singer at the helm.
The band are seeing success from their hard work and are now travelling all around Australia.
They have performing at a range of high-profile events including Country On The Green, the Tamworth Country Music Festival and the Great Western Hotel in Rockhampton.
The Airlie Beach Hotel are next on their list and Ally said they are excited about bringing their Australia-wide show to the Whitsundays.
This will be the first time that Ally and her band have been to the region and they are looking forward to soaking up some tropical charm.
Ally in particular said she is excited to meet the Whitsunday locals and create a party atmosphere for all to enjoy.
‘We always like to have a chat after our show and see what the people thought of it!”

The latest sensation which is adding an exciting sweet note to the local music scene is the fortnightly Jazz afternoons taking place on alternate Sundays on the deck at The Palms Restaurant and Bar.
Located at the Colonial Palms Motor Inn, these unique and intimate afternoons have generated a growing following among locals and tourists alike who enjoy the depth and complexity of jazz music.
The story began when Colonial Palm Managers, Greg and Nettie, approached locally highly acclaimed jazz musician, Nick Di Gregorio.
Thrilled to be given a platform to bring a new community of jazz musicians together, Nick has since brought visiting jazz musicians from as far afield as Melbourne, Townsville and Mackay, to play at these local events.
Having first picked up a guitar when he was 10, Nick’s talent was soon recognised and by the age of 15 he was studying at the Victorian College of Performing Arts.
After this, he attended the Western Australia Academy for Performing Arts where he specialised in jazz for three years.
Over the past 10 years Nick has played on cruise ships, gigged in London for five years and been the point person for Hamilton Island live music acts.
He has been a full-time musician since the age of 15 and luckily for the Whitsundays he is setting a life up here with his English partner and their six month old son.
You will find Nick performing at The Palms every other Sunday alongside a different visiting musician.
This Sunday he will be on guitar and vocals while special guest Clare Whitecombe will be on piano.
Come along this Sunday afternoon and enjoy a relaxing experience to the backdrop of stunning sea views from the deck, chilled drinks and delicious tapas.

A joyful celebration of songs about bravery and heroism, the show features a variety of music genres from pop to opera, country to classical.
This live musical tribute will encompass chart-topping anthems and unique mashups that will have you dancing in your seat.
Timeless hits about bravery and heroism from artists like The Beatles, David Bowie, John Farnham and more, intertwine with opera classics from composers like Beethoven and Bizet to provide the soundtrack for our story as we search for what it means to be a hero.
Exploring the musical archives, the audience will discover that not all heroes wear capes.
From the creative minds behind Are You Lonesome Tonight and Lady Sings the Maroons, this new musical showcases Queensland’s finest talent including Marcus Corowa, Luke Volker, Jason Barry-Smith, Ruby Clark and Shikara Ringdahl.
Sing along with these artists as they take songs you know and love and weave them into a story for the whole family.
Do We Need Another Hero? believes that each person possesses a unique superpower, and grand acts of courage need not always make headlines.
This show will delight and encourage you to reflect on the idea that everyone can be a hero, if only for a day.
