Beatlemania Comes To Proserpine For One-Night-Only Celebration

Beatlemania Comes To Proserpine For One-Night-Only Celebration

Get ready to “Twist & Shout” as Beatlemania On Tour brings its internationally acclaimed production to the Proserpine Entertainment Centre on Sunday 26th April 2026 at 7.30pm, for one night only. Since its launch in 2009, the Australian-based show has built a formidable global reputation, selling out performances across North America, Europe, South Africa, the Middle East, Asia and New Zealand. After a decade away from Australia’s east coast, the production is now returning with a high-energy tribute to the music that defined a generation. Audiences can expect a two-hour audio-visual spectacular featuring more than 40 of the greatest hits by The Beatles, performed live in their original keys with meticulous attention to detail. Replica costumes, period instruments and theatrical lighting combine to recreate the look and sound of the 1960s, capturing the spirit of the world’s most influential band. The setlist reads like a greatest-hits time capsule, including classics such as Hey Jude, All You Need Is Love, Yellow Submarine, Let It Be, Twist & Shout, Yesterday, Come Together, Get Back, Help!, Eleanor Rigby and Here Comes the Sun, among many others. Behind the production is a cast of seasoned musicians, including Zachary Coombs, who performs the role of John Lennon. Coombs’ connection to the music runs deeper than most. Named after Zak Starkey, son of Ringo Starr, he grew up in a musical household influenced by jazz, rock and 90s pop. He first picked up the guitar as a teenager before discovering The Beatles at 15 after receiving their 1 compilation album. “I fell in love with every single song,” Coombs recalled, describing the moment as a turning point that led him to explore the band’s entire catalogue. After years touring internationally as a solo cruise ship performer, Coombs joined Beatlemania in 2014, later stepping into the role of John Lennon. He has also performed as Paul McCartney and George Harrison in earlier productions, drawing on what he describes as “the magic within the music itself.” He says the key to portraying Lennon lies in understanding the balance of musicianship and attitude. “If the musicians are having fun on stage, it becomes infectious,” Coombes said. The show also features fellow performers portraying Ringo Starr and the rest of the iconic line-up, with attention to every musical and visual detail. For Coombs and the cast, the appeal of Beatles music lies in its universality, with songs built on themes of love, peace and connection that continue to resonate across generations. “This is more than a concert,” organisers say. “It’s a celebration of music history.” Tickets are available now. Uniting Hearts and Hands

October 31, 2024

Every year, Airlie Beach Festival of Music thrives thanks to a dedicated team of nearly one hundred volunteers who work tirelessly to help bring the festival to life.  From setting up inventory, to manning the pop-up office, managing ticket and merchandise sales and critical bump-in and bump out tasks, these passionate volunteers handle it all.  Among them is a special group known as “ambassadors,” easily spotted in their blue-striped shirts, stationed throughout the festival - they're the go-to crew to give directions, answer questions and even offer a hug when needed.
A key figure behind the scenes is Margie Murphy, owner of Airlie Events, who works all year long to help turn the vision into reality.
“I love working with a passionate team of volunteers, who come together to make something amazing,” said Margie, who’s working around the clock as opening day approaches.
“Without the dedication of our incredible volunteers, this festival would remain just a dream, and our community would miss out on the tremendous economic and social benefits it brings.”
The sense of community extends to local schools as well, with Cannonvale State School and PCYC Whitsundays both raising vital funds through food stalls at the festival, adding even more heart to the event.
To further extend the community give-back, the festival rallies around a fundraising charity and for the past ten years well over $50,000 has been donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation through Pink Ribbon activations.  After a decade of unwavering support for the Foundation, the festival is excited to announce a new chapter in its’ community give-back initiatives by sharing the love and partnering with BMA CQ Rescue.  This shift reflects the festival's commitment to diversifying its’ impact and supporting a broader range of causes that resonate with the community.
BMA CQ Rescue Helicopter is a vital aeromedical and search-and-rescue service operating in Central Queensland, covering an extensive area from Townsville to St Lawrence.  Established in 1996, this community-driven organisation provides emergency helicopter services to residents, workers and visitors, ensuring help is available 24/7, 365 days a year.
Funds for the Organisation will be generated via a raffle and live auction, with two artist-signed guitars up for grabs.  Don’t miss your chance to snag one of these priceless treasures while championing a cause that matters!  Tickets will be available at the festival main tent and from the enthusiastic BMA CQ Rescue team throughout the duration of the festival and the grand auction and prize draw will take place on the main stage on the night of Sunday, November 10.

Shake Up A Storm In The Whitsundays Malibu Bay Breeze Recipe

November 1, 2024

As summer approaches, we can expect warm weather, humidity, and plenty of time by the pool. To make the most of these sunny days, nothing beats a refreshing cocktail to cool you down and elevate your spirits.
This Malibu Bay Breeze recipe is a delicious tropical cocktail that pairs coconut rum, cranberry and pineapple, making sure to give you all the Whitsunday sultry summer holiday feels.
Let’s start with some ingredients...

Ingredients
2 ounces 100% pineapple juice
1 ½ ounces coconut rum
2 ounces 100% unsweetened cranberry juice*
1 lime wedge

Now for the fun part, time to start shaking!

Instructions
   1. To start, combine the pineapple juice and coconut rum in a glass and give it a stir. Then, fill the glass with ice.
   2. In a shot glass or small pitcher, measure out the unsweetened cranberry juice. Carefully pour the cranberry juice over the ice so it floats on top.
   3. Finish by garnishing with a lime wedge and enjoy your refreshing Whitsundays cocktail!

Top Tips:
   • Use unsweetened cranberry juice – the sugar can affect the density and the order you float the liquid matters.
   • Stir the pineapple and coconut rum in a glass to start. These will stay on the bottom.
   • Finish with the unsweetened cranberry juice, which will float on top (provided you get unsweetened) and stir gently for a swirl effect.

Ocean Breeze And Unique Eats At Zorro’s Café & Bar

October 31, 2024

Tucked away in the stunning Port of Airlie, Zorro’s Café & Bar is a family run business with beautiful ocean views, and it is open seven days a week from 7am – 2pm.

Well-equipped for the hospitality industry, Zorro’s Café & Bar owners Terry and Perri Clarke worked in tourism for many years before switching focus to create a vibrant café culture at the bustling marina precinct instead.

Zorro’s Café & Bar named after the official meet & greet dog Zorro, has been open since December 2023, and the stunning setting makes it a beautiful place to eat.

The café overlooking the marina, captures lovely summer breezes off the water making it the perfect venue to unwind, relax and enjoy with friends.

Zorro’s Café & Bar is open for Breakfast and Lunch and what sets them apart is their selection of fresh salads and extensive tapas menu.

“Perri is keen to introduce a range of fresh salads,” said Terry.

“We do summer salads using fresh seasonal produce – come and try our avocado and mango salad, the pear and walnut salad or the roast pumpkin salad – they are all delicious.

The Tapas menu at Zorro’s is a great addition to the menu with shared platter plates combined with the growing Cocktail list and daily specials proving to be popular.

The breakfast menu has a few highlights including ‘The Stack’ which includes four hashbrowns stacked up high with bacon, avocado and salmon. Chili scrambled eggs and Perri’s favourite her savoury mince.

Terry recalls that the pintxos bars of San Sebastian are the basis for what he and Perri wanted to create at Zorro’s. A friendly gathering place for friends to meet, relax and enjoy each other’s company.

Zorro’s has an expansive outdoor setting on vibrant marina frontage, but their big indoor air-conditioned seating area is bright, open and welcoming to all - it is a perfect escape from the heat and it’s premises is also available for evening functions.

The team at Zorro’s Café & Bar look forward to welcoming you to our Alfresco dining venue overlooking the beautiful marina at Port of Airlie.

October 24, 2024

The Mackay Isaac Tourism (MIT) Awards Gala Dinner has once again showcased the outstanding achievements of our region’s tourism operators, individuals and volunteers, recognising their contributions to making the Mackay Isaac region a must-visit destination in Queensland.

Taking place at the Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre on Friday, 4th October 2024, the Awards Dinner, themed 'Captain’s Table,' set the tone for an evening of celebration and reflection.

MIT CEO Jeff Stewart-Harris extended his congratulations to all award entrants and expressed his gratitude for the unwavering support from members, stakeholders, and the wider tourism community.

"Tourism plays a pivotal role in the Mackay Isaac region, not only by driving economic growth but by sharing our unique natural beauty, culture, and experiences with visitors from all corners of the country and the globe”, Mr Stewart-Harris said.

“In the year ending June 2024 the Mackay Isaac region launched three major destination marketing campaigns and supported several fantastic events which resulted in 1.144 million overnight domestic and international visitors.

"Without the enthusiasm and passion of our members, partners, stakeholders and volunteers, this success wouldn’t be possible.

“On behalf of the entire MIT board and staff, I’d like to congratulate all of tonight’s winners and finalists for your outstanding achievements.

“It is your dedication to creativity and commitment to excellence that continues to make our region a destination of choice”.
