Get ready to “Twist & Shout” as Beatlemania On Tour brings its internationally acclaimed production to the Proserpine Entertainment Centre on Sunday 26th April 2026 at 7.30pm, for one night only. Since its launch in 2009, the Australian-based show has built a formidable global reputation, selling out performances across North America, Europe, South Africa, the Middle East, Asia and New Zealand. After a decade away from Australia’s east coast, the production is now returning with a high-energy tribute to the music that defined a generation. Audiences can expect a two-hour audio-visual spectacular featuring more than 40 of the greatest hits by The Beatles, performed live in their original keys with meticulous attention to detail. Replica costumes, period instruments and theatrical lighting combine to recreate the look and sound of the 1960s, capturing the spirit of the world’s most influential band. The setlist reads like a greatest-hits time capsule, including classics such as Hey Jude, All You Need Is Love, Yellow Submarine, Let It Be, Twist & Shout, Yesterday, Come Together, Get Back, Help!, Eleanor Rigby and Here Comes the Sun, among many others. Behind the production is a cast of seasoned musicians, including Zachary Coombs, who performs the role of John Lennon. Coombs’ connection to the music runs deeper than most. Named after Zak Starkey, son of Ringo Starr, he grew up in a musical household influenced by jazz, rock and 90s pop. He first picked up the guitar as a teenager before discovering The Beatles at 15 after receiving their 1 compilation album. “I fell in love with every single song,” Coombs recalled, describing the moment as a turning point that led him to explore the band’s entire catalogue. After years touring internationally as a solo cruise ship performer, Coombs joined Beatlemania in 2014, later stepping into the role of John Lennon. He has also performed as Paul McCartney and George Harrison in earlier productions, drawing on what he describes as “the magic within the music itself.” He says the key to portraying Lennon lies in understanding the balance of musicianship and attitude. “If the musicians are having fun on stage, it becomes infectious,” Coombes said. The show also features fellow performers portraying Ringo Starr and the rest of the iconic line-up, with attention to every musical and visual detail. Friday, the 7th of November marked a highlight on the Whitsunday Anglican School Junior School calendar, with students, staff and families gathering for the annual End of Year Arts Concert. The showcase featured outstanding performances from the school’s talented choirs and musical ensembles.
The event provided younger students with an inspiring glimpse into the many musical opportunities available to them as they progress through the school. It also offered ensembles the chance to perform together for the final time in 2025, rounding out a year of creativity and collaboration.
The End of Year Arts Concert has become a cherished tradition at Whitsunday Anglican School, celebrating the dedication, teamwork and artistic achievements of its students.
Congratulations to all who participated. Many Junior School students are expected to feel encouraged and excited to join an ensemble or choir in the years ahead.

Airlie Beach is gearing up for a high-energy week of music and entertainment, with internationally toured performance group Big City Beat preparing to make their debut at the Airlie Beach Hotel this New Years Eve.
The Melbourne-based band, which has been performing for around 20 years, will deliver their full-scale New Year’s Eve production. Known for their high-energy performances and large ensemble, Big City Beat features an 11-piece lineup of male and female vocalists, dancers, instrumentalists, percussion and a three-piece brass section.
Their New Year’s Eve event will showcase the band’s popular 70s, 80s, 90s show. Which includes costumes and the biggest hits of each decade. The performance includes tongue-in-cheek moments, audience interaction and a party atmosphere designed to bring the eras to life.
As the clock nears midnight, the show will transition into their Bruno Mars Tribute, a celebration of the pop star’s music along with songs from artists who influenced him, including Prince, Michael Jackson, Beyoncé, Tina Turner and Justin Timberlake.
Big City Beat’s show formats have taken them around the world, including multiple performances in Beijing, Tokyo, Oman, Singapore and Jakarta, as well as theatres and major events across Australia. Their upcoming visit will mark the band’s first time performing in Airlie Beach, with several members planning to stay on and enjoy the region.
Known for blending musical precision with humour, choreography and crowd involvement, the band promises a lively and engaging experience for New Year’s Eve revellers and holidaymakers throughout their stay.

Mackay creatives are making their mark across the nation, and Kylie Ferriday is one of them.
At this year’s Derby Day at Flemington, the local artist turned a custom couture gown into a breathtaking canvas celebrating nature and individuality. Amanda Katsadoros, brought the dress to life on the runway, crafted by Anna Dutton Couture and perfectly complemented by a striking millinery piece from Rebecca Share.
The gown, designed in black and white to suit the Derby Day theme, became a statement of artistry, painstakingly hand-painted with intricate bird motifs.
“Birds are my favourite animals. I love cockatoos. They’re just so calming, free, and beautiful,” Kylie said.
“All those intricate details and feathers are what I loved about that dress... painting a horse just wouldn’t have been authentic for me.”
The collaboration began more than a year ago when Kylie was approached to work on the custom gown. Initially apprehensive, she decided to take the leap, embracing the challenge.
“You can’t make mistakes on something like this,” she said.
“I think it’s sometimes good to do things that scare you. Sometimes it pays off, and this was one of those times.”
The final piece is a true showcase of regional talent and creativity, with its delicate black, white, and grey palette highlighting Kylie’s meticulous layering. The gown demanded over 50 hours of work, with each stroke carefully applied to bring the birds to life. The collaboration also included local millinery and couture expertise, further emphasising the depth of talent in Mackay and beyond.
Kylie says the project reflects a lifelong dedication to creativity. Born in Mackay and raised in Cairns before studying in Brisbane, she always gravitated toward art. She honed her skills at Cairns High’s Centre of Artistic Development and later at Queensland University of Technology.
Today, she shares that passion through Art Haus, a space dedicated to nurturing local young artists.
“Not all kids want to do sport after school. Some want to sit down and paint. I created Art Haus because I wanted them to feel like they can belong,” she said.
“It’s a safe space. Everyone is welcome, no matter their level or background. I’ve watched students flourish into amazing artists over the years,” Kylie said.
The Derby gown project has also brought wider recognition.
“It’s humbling to have it noticed down south,” she said. “I’m proud it’s come from a regional town, and I love that our community embraces the arts.”
For aspiring artists, Kylie advises to “Just start.”
“Being creative and sharing it is brave, but it’s also how we grow.”

Australian music icon Rick Price lit up the stage at Souths Leagues Club last Thursday night, performing to a lively crowd in support of Mackay-based domestic violence charity, Broken Ballerina Inc.
The performance was part of Price’s Tamborine Mountain 30th Anniversary Tour, celebrating three decades since the release of his much-loved album. In a gesture that struck a powerful chord with the community, $10 from every Mackay ticket and $5 from each Bowen ticket was donated directly to Broken Ballerina Inc, helping support victim-survivors of domestic and family violence.
Broken Ballerina founder Jules Thompson said the evening was a moving reminder of how music can unite people for a purpose.
“We had the best time watching Rick Price on Thursday night,” Jules said. “We are so grateful for the money that was raised for Broken Ballerina Inc. Thanks Rick, you are a true gentleman and an inspiration.”
Humble and down-to-earth, Price delivered an outstanding and intimate performance that captivated the audience from start to finish. A hot pink guitar was auctioned during the event, which was won by a devoted fan who has cherished Rick’s music for more than three decades, with all proceeds supporting the charity.
Fans were treated to timeless hits including Heaven Knows, Not a Day Goes By, and Foolish Heart, with his soulful voice and heartfelt storytelling leaving a lasting impression.
The event not only celebrated Australian music at its finest but also highlighted Mackay’s enduring spirit of compassion and community.

Fans of Matchbox Twenty and Rob Thomas are in for a treat next weekend as the Australian Matchbox Twenty Tribute Show heads to the Airlie Beach Hotel for the very first time.
While the band’s guitarist has previously visited the Whitsundays with the INXS Tribute Show, founding member and bass player Ronny Howard said the full group is excited to make its debut in paradise.
“If you could see what the weather in Melbourne is doing today, you wouldn’t need to ask if we’re looking forward to it,” he laughed.
“It was 12 degrees yesterday, we’ll take the humid weather any day.”
The show blends the biggest hits from both Matchbox Twenty and Rob Thomas’s solo career, creating a setlist that promises something for everyone. Fans can expect to hear classics like 3AM, Unwell, Bent, How Far We’ve Come and Smooth, along with newer favourites such as Her Diamonds and Little Wonders.
“We love engaging with the audience,” Ronny said. “It’s relaxed, energetic and fun. If people start singing along, we’ll often just let them take over. It’s all about getting everyone involved.”
The tribute band has been performing together for nearly two decades, with Ronny, the drummer and guitarist forming the original lineup around 18 years ago. Their current lead singer, Sean, joined a few years back and has since made a big impression.
“We’ve had some incredible shows over the years. One of our biggest was a sold-out amphitheatre gig in Canberra,” Ronny said.
The tribute band has played all over the country and is looking at adding South Australia to its show list in 2026.

The dust has settled on the Whitsundays, but the sound of music still echoes in Airlie Beach as the 2025 Airlie Beach Festival of Music wraps up, celebrating a record-breaking year for both attendance and community spirit.
The three-day music event, which saw the town's venues and the iconic Main Tent fully activated, delivered an estimated $5 million injection into the local economy. This huge success was driven by a staggering turnout, confirming the festival's status as a must-attend event on the national music calendar. The introduction of new 2-day ticket options and innovative camping packages was credited as a major success factor in accommodating the massive demand.
Record Attendance and Community Triumph
This year, the festival recorded a sellout on Saturday night with 3,000 people in the Main Tent, with thousands more joining across the 15 venues throughout Airlie Beach over the weekend.
Festival Founder, Gavin Butlin, was quick to praise the incredible collaboration that drives the event.
“This year was truly special because every single person contributed to the magic,” Mr. Butlin said.
“To our incredible artists—from Jessica Mauboy and The Screaming Jets to every single band and artist on a venue stage—thank you for the soundtrack to our festival. Fostering Future Talent: A Mauboy Moment
Beyond the headline shows, a key highlight of the 2025 festival was its deep commitment to nurturing the next generation of Australian talent.
This commitment was powerfully demonstrated by headline artist Jessica Mauboy, who created a special moment by meeting with Indigenous youth performers, who had performed on the Amped Up stage at Club Whitsunday, prior to her electrifying Sunday performance. This moment underscores Mauboy’s and Airlie Beach Festival of Music’s dedication to developing future stars.
By incorporating these youth programs and initiatives like the highly successful Passport to Airlie competition, the festival is actively fostering emerging artists to take the stage in future years, securing the sound of Australian music.
The festival's unique town-wide model, utilising 15 venues, ensured that the economic benefit flowed directly through the community, boosting accommodation providers, restaurants, and local tourism operators throughout the entire five-day period and beyond.

The Queensland Symphony Orchestra (QSO) returned to the Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre (MECC) on Thursday, 30 October, giving the region a night of classical music for the first time in more than a decade.
Featuring 53 musicians under the baton of conductor Sam Weller and joined by baritone Jake Lyle, the orchestra performed Northern Lights and Southern Stars, taking the audience on a spellbinding journey through some of the world’s most evocative music.
Mayor Greg Williamson said the return of QSO was a cultural milestone for Mackay.
“It is fantastic to welcome Queensland Symphony Orchestra back to the Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre - marking the first time in over a decade that a full symphony orchestra has played in our region,” Mayor Williamson said.
He added, “Mackay Regional Council is proud to support this extraordinary event, reaffirming our commitment to delivering enriching and inspiring performances to our community.”
The concert was supported by Mackay Regional Council through the Invest Mackay Events Attraction Program, reflecting council’s ongoing commitment to bringing world-class cultural experiences to the region.
QSO’s visit also included a strong education and community program, with five student workshops and two dedicated education concerts scheduled at the MECC. More than 1,600 primary and secondary students attended the workshops and concerts, thanks to the generosity of QSO and the support of the Friends of the MECC.
“These workshops and education concerts are inspiring the next generation of musicians, while giving our young people an unforgettable opportunity to experience the scale and sound of a symphony orchestra,” Mayor Williamson said.
QSO Chief Executive Officer Michael Sterzinger said the company’s regional tour built enduring bonds with Queensland communities like Mackay and fostered cultural vibrancy and arts accessibility.
“QSO is committed to not only giving thousands of regional and remote Queenslanders a chance to hear live orchestral music but to enriching the communities in which we perform,” Mr Sterzinger said.
He continued, “We are invested in nurturing an understanding and appreciation of music in children and sparking the imagination of Queensland’s emerging young talent.”
The night was hailed as a resounding success, leaving audiences and organisers alike celebrating the joy of hosting such a world-class performance in Mackay.

Against a glamorous masquerade backdrop, the evening united tourism operators, volunteers, stakeholders, and industry leaders to celebrate the passion and pride of those who support our visitor economy.
Mackay Isaac Tourism CEO said the annual Mackay Isaac Tourism awards program plays a vital role in elevating local tourism operators, providing a platform for recognition, collaboration and growth.
“The awards are more than just a celebration – they’re a powerful reminder of the passion and perseverance that drives our industry forward”, Mr Stewart-Harris said.
