The Abell Point Yacht Club’s 2025 Coral Coast Rally set sail with all the excitement, colour, and competitive spirit that have made it a favourite among cruising sailors. The fleet burst across the start line in spectacular fashion, with Seventh Heaven narrowly avoiding an early black flag before scooting off right on the starter’s horn—suspiciously reminiscent of Terry Stevens’ tone. Amazing Grace, Symbiosis, Sea Mist, and Catnirvana were hot on its heels. With 20-knot gusts pushing them north, sails were full and spirits high.

The first night at picturesque Cape Gloucester set the tone for one of the most memorable rallies in years. Montes served up a feast that even the fussiest eaters enjoyed, while Kimmy serenaded crews with classics that quickly filled the dance floor. The Heroes & Villains dress-up theme—from Dracula to surf lifesavers—ensured the rally kicked off in style.

Day Two took the fleet on a lively 48-nautical-mile passage to Cape Upstart. With 16–20 knots and rolling seas, it was vigorous but enjoyable—until rounding Bun Rock, when gusts hit 37 knots. Several anchors dragged, nerves were tested, and sleep became a luxury. Yet, by morning, sailors were still smiling.

Day Three brought sunshine, sizzling burgers, and laughter at the traditional Shark Bay BBQ. Stories were shared, friendships deepened, and one adventurous dinghy made its own escape. As the weather worsened, the fleet wisely remained storm-bound at Upstart, taking in one of the most beautiful anchoring spots.

Day Four offered calm seas and a pause in the winds. Maintenance, relaxation, and a beach sundowner were complemented by Bocce and Finska competitions, with Sea Mist, Amazing Grace, Symbiosis, Vagabond, and Seventh Heaven shining. A few “badge forgetters” earned some light-hearted ribbing.

Day Five began in the dark with a 4–6am departure for a 70-nautical-mile leg to Magnetic Island. Cape Bowling Green was off the cards, so Horseshoe Bay became the focus. Sea Mist stole the show by landing a magnificent tuna and generously sharing sashimi with the fleet. Cold beers and pub storytelling capped off a long day.

Day Six featured rally traditions: sixteen sailors in matching shirts took on the golf course, including a cliff-shot on the 5th tee, with Mark and Jan from Alexandra excelling. Later, the Marlin Bar hosted Nautical Trivia Night, where Anne and Robin from Symbiosis triumphed with their obscure knowledge of Ming-Dynasty explorer Zheng He.

Day Seven offered free time before sundowners aboard Vagabond, including a farewell to Clarke, a popular rally personality, and a humorous welcome for newcomer Peter with a “well-seasoned” rally shirt and makeshift tutu.

The last official event on Day Nine at Amaroo on Mandalay Resort featured the Rally Olympics: pantyhose-and-orange races, ping-pong-ball-in-an-umbrella challenges, and a final event best left undescribed. Alexandra claimed overall victory and the Horse’s Arse Award, while local sponsor Opal Earth’s grand prize of opal jewellery went to Matt Flint of Reignition.

The APYC committee thanked participants for making the 2025 rally vibrant, and acknowledged sponsors whose support was vital. Sailors departed with strengthened friendships, lasting memories, and fair-wind wishes. A concluding dock party on B Arm offered one last chance for camaraderie before crews set off on their next adventures.

We’re in the last week of spring and summer is on the way, which means the weather is only getting warmer. It’s a relief to have our beautiful roof keeping us cool while the bowls keep sizzling.

This week was again full of action, starting with Tuesday afternoon social bowls, which featured a fabulous final in the mixed fours. Tony Whitehorn as skipper, with Ladda Purdie, Betty Whitehorn and Lyn Graham, took on the strong team of skipper Shane Spann, Joan McGrath, Harry Quod and lead Vicki Spann, who ran away with the win in the final ends, 26–16. This match also features in this week’s photo. Congratulations to all who played.

Wednesday afternoon social bowls saw a very strong performance from skipper Andrew Butler, Glenn O’Brien—fresh back from holidays in Victoria—and newly wedded lead Alma Rose Mawson. Although Alma is still very new to the game, she already shows the skills to go a long way and is quickly becoming a valued member of our little club. Their team won by 18 shots to take home the money.

Wednesday night Business House Bowls continues to grow in popularity, with more than 30 bowlers taking to the green each week. The competition is really heating up. It is well organised by Bob and Yvonne Spees, who also cook up fantastic hamburgers for everyone. Results and team standings will be posted next week.

Friday mornings belong to the Endeavour Foundation, and the improvement in the team is very noticeable. Cathy, Kiara, Deon, John, Jett and Michael are all showing signs they could represent the Whitsundays in next year’s Disabled Games.

Friday afternoon saw the Christian College students arrive for mixed bowls. With the end of term looming, it’s great to see some wonderful partnerships forming. Tamsyn Carus with Annalise Kennelly, Myia Shimmen and Harmony Carus all played well, while Elliana Langshore with Maddy Riley and Miranda Jackson with Ruby Atkins continue to improve. New bowlers Charlotte Behnck and Brooke Wilkinson are very impressive. Pazel Davis has great potential in the sport, and Ocean Houlding could become a champion if she wasn’t so easily distracted—though she is still a very good bowler. Olive Burke also deserves special recognition.

Saturday morning Scroungers saw first-round winners Andy McDougall, Dennis Donnadelli and Tony Whitehorn fighting it out for victory, with Tony taking out the A Division. Arthur McManus won the B Grade final.

Sunday afternoon social bowls attracted 28 bowlers, with the dice deciding the smallest winning margin. The victorious team was John Brown with his brilliant wife Robin, and lead Lu Rogan, who took home the money. It must be noted that Warren Mills, home on respite from radiation therapy in Townsville, teamed with lead Liz McManus and Gary Smith to win by 20 shots. Another fantastic result came from the team of Andy McDougall, with Alma Rose Mawson continuing her brilliant form alongside Dawn Dowell, winning by 19 shots.

U11 Boys
The U11 Proserpine Pitbulls hosted Brothers on Saturday, with Luka captaining and sending the visitors in after winning the bat flip. The bowlers were sharp from the outset, applying steady pressure and sharing the wickets: Jonty (2-10), James (1-10), Hector (1-12) and Fred (1-21). Six runouts—thanks to Hector, James, Will, Harry, Luka and Fred—kept Brothers to 119 after 20 overs.
Harry and Fred opened the chase strongly before Will (12*) and James (18*) built momentum with smart stroke play. Jonty (10*) and Hector (37*) accelerated late, and Luka (7*) finished the job as the Pitbulls passed the total at 126, winning by seven runs. Harry McDonald earned Player of the Match.

U11 Girls & Mixed
The U11 Girls met the U11 Mixed team in a fun Pitties-on-Pitties clash at Proserpine High School. The Girls batted first and worked hard on a slow outfield, finishing on 48 with steady contributions from F. Gallagher, M. Neal, E. Glindemann, G. Green, A. Quod and others.
The Mixed team bowled tightly, led by N. Garraway with a superb 4-2 off 3 overs, supported by wickets from R. Pocock, C. Green, L. Sander and G. Green. Chasing 48, the Mixed side reached 87, thanks to solid knocks from L. Sander, Z. Mead, R. Pocock, L. Neal and Garraway.

U12s
The U12 Pitties hosted Magpies White, taking early wickets through P. Regan and later T. Gibbs, who grabbed a wicket and two catches. Further breakthroughs came from N. Camm, B. Whitty and L. Aitken, restricting Magpies to 5-182.
In reply, Gibbs top-scored with a lively 40, with support from S. Pirlo (22), L. and N. Aitken, and Regan. The Pitties finished on 121 in a determined chase.

U13s
Travelling to Beaconsfield, the U13s posted 3-156 after strong knocks from M. Hope (39*), H. Gibbs (20*), J. Smith and retired batters Brazil, Hearn and Edgerton.
A disciplined bowling effort followed, highlighted by Gibbs (2-8), Hope (2-3) and wickets to Edgerton, Cale, Smith and Brazil. Magpies were bowled out for 95, sealing a convincing Pitties win.

U14s
Against Souths at Harrup Park, PJCA bowled tightly with early wickets to J. Farley, O. Kelly and C. Manley, before B. Hetherington struck twice late to restrict Souths to 5-137.
A. Farley (25), Hetherington (33) and Kelly (23*) led a strong chase, but the Pitties fell nine runs short at 7-128.

The U15s posted 63 against Magpies, with E. Baker (28) and R. Davies (12) top-scoring. Defending, A. Valmadre (3-32), O. Dibben (3-22) and W. Marshall (2-11) kept the match alive, but Magpies reached 137. A spirited effort despite the loss.

U17s
The U17s dominated Norths, bowling them out for 111 thanks to J. Valmadre (3-16), M. Pomeroy (2-10) and tight fielding.
A powerful chase followed, led by M. Logan (57), J. Geisler (57*) and W. Logan (29*), securing victory at 5-178.

At Sunday morning’s AGM, members gathered to receive reports on the year’s club operations. Thanks to all who attended or sent apologies. This year’s reports highlighted notable achievements and acknowledged everyone who contributed to the club’s goals.

A key item on the agenda was the awarding of Life Memberships to Wayne Handley and Heather Brown. Members were presented with summaries of their nominations before voting. We congratulate both recipients, who join the club’s valued Life Members: Kevin Thorogood, Allan Pershouse, Sandy Daffara, Vince Olsen, and Joan Thorogood.

Office bearers for the coming year were confirmed as follows: Michael Harrison – Chairman; Heather Brown – Secretary, Ladies Section President, MDLBA Representative and Media Officer; Jonathan Bye – Treasurer; Dale Haack – Providore (Bar); Barry Saroglia – Games Director; Andrew Bell – Greens Director. Gavin Noonan was elected Deputy Chairman and Men’s President following the retirements of Geoff Hunter and Scott Hamilton. Mike Harrison has taken on Providore (Kitchen) after Bruce Uhe’s retirement. Tuesday afternoon winners were Gordon Queero, Deb Retchless, Laurie Land and Graeme Read, defeating Shirley Jones, Sue Shearing, Gavin Charles and Marg Wilson. The jackpot, which is building up nicely, didn’t go off.

It was a big weekend for Wangaratta. On Saturday, the club hosted its annual Come & Try afternoon, with twenty budding bowlers out on the green showing plenty of natural talent. It was great to see everyone enjoying themselves in a relaxed social atmosphere. If you would like to learn to play, come down on a Tuesday or Sunday afternoon around 1pm and we can organise some bowls so you can have a go. From 2 December, social bowls will commence at 2pm.

On Sunday, the club held a wonderful memorial afternoon celebrating the life of Life Member Merle Elphinstone. Fifty-four players took to the green, including many of Merle’s family as well as visitors from Airlie Beach, Ayr and BBC. Although the weather was warm, the afternoon moved quickly with plenty of fun and friendly rivalry.

Hot conditions made for challenging rounds at Proserpine Golf Club this week, but strong fields still produced excellent golf across all competitions.
Tuesday’s Single Stableford saw Scott Mason win the men’s event with 38 points, just ahead of Jon Miller on 37. In the ladies, Penny Wardroper finished on top with 38, followed by Jacqui Wall on 37.

In the Vets’ 3 Clubs and a Putter, winners were Jacqui Wall (37) in the ladies and Larry Muller (38) in the men’s, with notable NTP hauls for both Mullers.

Wednesday’s Airllywood Stableford was a highlight for the ladies, with Tina Badenhorst winning on 42 points on a countback from Trish McNeill. Leanne Alexander (41) and Anna Winterbourn (39) rounded out the placings.

Thursday’s Medley Stableford saw A Grade won by Adam Nissen (37), while B Grade went to Edwina Pettiford on a 40-point countback from Conor Smith.

In the Friday 9-Hole Run, Nick Watson won with 22 points, ahead of Adam Hay (20) and Chris Pirlo (18). Rob Smith claimed both NTPs. Pirlo was also drawn for the $1100 Putt for Cash but was unable to sink the winning putt.

Saturday’s MBW Stableford delivered another strong performance from Scott Mason, winning A Grade with 40 points on a countback. In B Grade, Cooper Nissen posted 40 points to win. The ladies event went to Di Chard (35).

Sunday’s Stableford saw Brock Smith take the men’s win with 41 points, while Penny Wardroper claimed the ladies with an impressive 42.

It has been an extraordinarily busy and successful month for students and staff at Mackay Christian College, with the school celebrating a wave of sporting achievements across several age groups. From the netball courts to the hockey field and rugby pitches, students have showcased exceptional skill, determination and sportsmanship.

Mackenzie Jackson has had a remarkable season, being awarded Most Consistent for the Magpies Netball Club. She was then nominated for Best and Fairest by the Mackay Netball Association for her age and division—an honour she went on to win, being named Best and Fairest player for the 14D division.

Impressive accomplishments also continued in hockey, with 11-year-old Fred Steidl selected as a Shadow Player (Goal Keeper) for the Queensland Hockey U14 Boys Indoor Team. This achievement is especially significant as Fred competed against players up to three years older.

In rugby, congratulations go to Brielle Herrington, Shantae Broome-Waria and Anahera Schaefer, who were undefeated in the U13 Mackay Rugby 7s held across the weekend of the 8th and 9th of November at the Nyrie Contor Cup.

The celebrations continued at the Mackay District School Sports (MDSS) Awards on the 17th of November where Frederick Steindl was one of three nominees for the 10–12 Boys Hockey category and was awarded the Most Outstanding Nominee.

In netball, Ainslee Procter made the Mackay Netball Association’s Mackay Monarchs Junior State Age 13s Squad of 24 for 2026. She also received the 12yrs Netball award at the MDSS Awards.

Rounding out the achievements, Viliame Tuibua was honoured with the Touch Football Sportsman of the Year and the Doug Knight Award for leadership and team character at the MDSS Awards.

It has indeed been a month packed with achievement, and the school community is celebrating the dedication and hard work of all involved!

It started with a leisurely Sunday morning social swim at Teemburra Dam (near Pinnacle) and built to a crescendo of medals and PB’s (personal bests) at the Masters Swimming  Queensland (MSQ) State Championships the following week!

It was a sultry early morning at Teemburra Dam where 2 kayakers, a couple of observers and 6 swimmers enjoyed a still water swim to welcome in November, refuelling with breakfast at Melba House.

Eight swimmers and one volunteer supporter travelled to Brisbane for the MSQ Masters State Championships held over 3 days early November.  22 teams from Queensland, interstate and overseas fielded 220 competitors.

The Sinkers’ team consisted of President Rachel Lee, Secretary Megan Taylor, Nigel Dalton, Pierre Craven, Sue Dalton, Dee McMurtrie, Lesley Thorpe and Sue McBride with volunteer Gerri Kissner.

A special treat of a superb dinner and tour of Parliament House hosted by MP for Mackay Nigel Dalton after the first day of competition, provided the inspiration and fuel to achieve 64 medals, 26 of which were GOLD!  Along with the metal, 30 PB’s were achieved with this success being attributed to Coach Millie from DMR Leisure at the Mackay Memorial pool.

That wasn’t the end of the Sinkers’ efforts and achievements!

Pierre, who had won 8 Gold with 3 PB’s, followed this up with a 2nd place in his age group at the MSQ 3km open water swim at Raby Bay the next day.  The following weekend he and 18 other Sinkers competed in the Hamilton Island Endurance Series, consisting of a 750m and 2km ocean swim and Triathlon.

Sinkers Geoff Hamilton, Paul Arvidson and Sandy Tobin won Gold in their age groups for the 750m ocean swim.  Bronze was won by Jenny Smith, Nigel Dalton and Pierre Craven in the 2km swim

Sinkers Masters Swimming Club isn’t just for swimmers. It is all inclusive with non-swimmers, those learning to swim again and a few using the water to recover from injury as well as some serious competitors. Mackay Tri Club Hosts Free Aquathlon For All Ages

Kick off your Australia Day with a splash… literally! Mackay Tri Club is inviting the whole community to celebrate fitness, fun, and camaraderie at its free Australia Day Aquathlon on January 26, 2026, at the Pioneer Swim Centre.

Whether you’re a seasoned athlete, a weekend warrior, or just looking for a fun way to get active with the family, this event is for you!

Supported by Mackay Regional Council and Triple M Mackay and Whitsundays, this Aquathlon is the only regional Queensland event to be featured in the NADC annual report, highlighting its significance and community impact. The focus is on enjoyment rather than competition, giving participants the chance to experience the thrill of racing, connect with friends and neighbours, and make this Australia Day one to remember.

Participants can take part solo or in teams of two across categories including Mini Kids (swim 100m, run 500m), Enticer (run 2.5km, swim 300m), and Swim Run (2.5km, swim 300m, run 2.5km, swim 300m)

Mackay Tri Club President Stephanie Allen said, “The Aquathlon offers an opportunity for people of all ages and abilities to come together, celebrate our country, and take part in a fun, healthy, and memorable event.”

At Mackay Contract Bridge Club

BRIDGE

The CQ Del Ryan Teams Congress, Red Point event, was played over the weekend. Sixteen teams attended from Townsville, Bowen, Rockhampton, Yeppoon and Mackay. The event is named after Del Ryan, who was a long-time player at the bridge club, and now her daughter Janet continues the tradition. Del’s granddaughter Courtney, who is a principal of North Marine in Cairns, is a supporter of the event.

Janet’s team came runner-up in Section A. Winners of Section A were Team Holewa from Mackay. Winners and runners-up of Section B were Team Bishop from Townsville and Team Pickering, a mixture of Townsville and Mackay players. Janet and her partner Diane Morgan, along with Geoff Taylor and Ken Seaniger, were winners of the Walkins.

Tuesday Evening Fixtures

Division 1 – Eagles (Emma Widdup, Syed Aminul Hossain, Josh Brown) defeated Lily (Robbie Richards, Lily Boland, Will VanDeKaa) 8-3, Josh won a tight 5 Sets over Robbie 11-7.

Jaguar (Jacob Whelan, Anne Sheridan, Neil Brown) defeated Barra (Barry Patterson, Lee Brake, Andrea Nicholson) 7-4.  Barry made a massive come back in 5 Sets against Jacob, with Barry winning 11-9.

Gold (Goncalo Serra, Graham Brake, Geoff Denman) defeated Fish (Steven Whiting, Trent Day, Allan Allan Edwards) 6-5 with Steve winning a close 5 Sets against Graham 11-6.

Division 2 – Alpha (Allan Robins, Samuel Whelan, Peter Goodson) defeated Marlin (Mark Sleeman, Ian McKay, Rymer Tabulo) 6-5 with Allan coming back to win 11-5 in 5th Set against Mark

Drongos (Duncan Treloar, Delma Knight, Yilin Jiang) defeated Teddy (George Camilleri, David Symons, Rachel Fiesta) 10-1. George and David won a big 5 Sets over Delma and Yilin 11-4.

Division 3 – Marlin (Mark Stem, Val Austin, Melanie Theodore) defeated Nova Smashers (Craig VanDeKaa, Remy Zhan, Nate Clark) 6-5, Remy had a great win over Val 11-2 in 5 Sets.

Tibhar (Tiffany Camilleri, Liz Burton, Ollie Hamelink) defeated Sigma (Rod Hamelink, Simon Hogan, Daryl Ross) 8-3, Tiffany and Liz won a great 5 Set match against Simon and Daryl 11-8.

Bass Bump (Donna Abbott, Judy Zahn, Peter Taber) def. Jazz Live (George Camilleri, Peter Goodson, Veronica Shepherd) 7-5 with Veronica having a great win over Peter T 11-6 in 5 Sets.

Drum Beat (Steve Mathieson, Allan Robins) drew with Jump Up (Delma Knight, Branko Vucurovic, Virginia Clayton) 6-6. Steve had a great match with Virginia with Steve winning 11-6 in 5 Sets.

Division 2 – Pixal Paddles (Marie Taylor, Ken Best, Frank Caruana) def. Code Crackers (Josie Davis, John Hamelink, Pam Kuene) 9-3, Marie won against Josie 11-8 in 5 Sets.

Byte Bouncers (Helen Ware, Gloria Vella, Robyn Bushell) def. Nano Nets (Coral Morgan, Kim Daffy, Ian Dodds) 7-5, Kim won in 5 Sets against Helen 11-9.

Division 3 – Bat Serves (David Muir, Janelle Kuene, Kim Challendar) def. Spider Smashers (Sharon Muller, Laurie Bradshaw, Trish Zamparutti) 7-5 with Trish having a close win over Janelle 11-9 in 5 Sets.

Iron Rallies (Gerry Synnott, Thelma Caruana, Glenda Brooks) def. Captain Spins (Sally Muir, Allison Day, Carmel Cristaldi) 9-3 with Sally having a great win over Gerry 11-9 in the 5th Set.

The Cannonvale Cannons traded the pool deck for palm trees and ocean views over the weekend as 17 swimmers took on the Hamilton Island Endurance Series Triathlon and Ocean Swim. With sparkling conditions, big smiles, and plenty of team spirit, our club proudly made its presence known across all three distances.

The 2km Ocean Swim saw outstanding performances, highlighted by Jacob Bell, who claimed first place in the Open Male division, and Tiana Bell, finishing second in the 14–19 years age group. Our dedicated coaches, swim parents and grandparents also took on the challenge, with Raylene Rasmussen, Mark Erickson, Jane Delac, and Mark McConkey all diving in and crossing the finish line with pride.

In the 750m event, Roxy Groom powered home to win Open Female, while the age group categories showcased even more Cannons talent: Kate Thomson claimed victory in the 30–39 years division, Jade Korosec took out the 40–49 years category, and Michael Mulliss finished an impressive second in the 30–39 years group. Karen McConkey also swam strongly in the 750m race.

Our youngest athletes shone brightly in the 350m Junior Swim, sweeping the podium in the boys’ race — Lucas Korosec (1st), Eric Mulliss (2nd), and Jasper Korosec (3rd) — while Ella Holmes secured third place in the Junior Girls. River and Penelope Shields also gave it their all, proudly representing the Cannons.

The endurance spirit carried into the Triathlon events, where River and Penelope tackled the Long-Distance Junior Triathlon with courage and determination. Penelope claimed the win, and River’s effort earned huge praise. Lucas Korosec delivered another standout performance, winning the Medium-Distance Junior Triathlon.

From first-timers to seasoned swimmers, from cheering parents to committed coaches, the Cannons community once again showed what makes our club so special — teamwork, encouragement, and a whole lot of heart.

Congratulations to every Cannon who competed, supported, and celebrated across the weekend. You made us incredibly proud!

Not long now until we’ll be banging pots and welcoming the New Year. We’re already looking forward to the joint Men’s and Women’s Pennants, which will no doubt make our little club even stronger.
This week brought great support across our social games, Business House Bowls and school activities.

Tuesday was Remembrance Day, and we certainly showed our fallen heroes they will never be forgotten. It was skipper Arthur McManus, with lead David Meiklejohn and Gary Smith, who finished in third place. In second was the team of Shane Spann, who had a great battle against Bob McMahon, with the support of lead Barry Wainwright and Shane’s wife Vicki Spann. They won an exciting contest by seven points.

However, the day’s honours went to skip Bob Menzies, visiting from Pakuranga Bowls Club in Auckland. With Kathryn Remmeswaal, they proved far too strong, defeating the powerful Whitehorn pairing of Betty and Tony, 35–21. Congratulations to all players.

Wednesday afternoon social bowls delivered a big win to the team of “Take the Money” Tony Whitehorn, who skipped Sur Dakin at lead and Sue Walker to a convincing finish.

Friday morning saw Endeavour Foundation participants showing huge enthusiasm. Jett and Kathy continue to improve their skills, Michael had his best game of the season under difficult conditions, and Deon and Donald are also trying hard. It was great to see John back from his travels.

Friday afternoon saw the Christian College students form their own teams for a weekly round robin. Tamsyn Carus and Sophie Adams, Taylor Fairhall with Alannah Jackson, and Myia Shimmen with Annalise Kennelly played out an 8-all draw, while Ruby Atkins and Miranda Jackson deserve special recognition for their skilful performance.

Saturday Morning Scroungers opened the new season, with first-round winners Betty Whitehorn, Dennis Donnadelli and Kathryn Remmeswaal playing off in the final. Kathryn and Betty went to an extra end, with Kathryn securing her first A Division title, while Des Ballance claimed the B Grade win.

Sunday afternoon bowls attracted 21 players, and we welcomed Graeme Little, Vice President of Woodford Bowls Club. He teamed up with “Take the Money” Tony Whitehorn and Keith Bates to take home the money.

U11s Boys

The Pitbull pups were back at home to face Walkerston, with Captain Fred winning the toss and electing to bowl. The boys backed him brilliantly, producing energetic fielding and disciplined bowling to restrict Walkerston to 64. Hector starred with 3–6, Jonty took 2–5, and Harrison claimed one, while Fred, James, Luka and William kept things tight. Run outs from William (2), Hector and Luka added to the pressure.

Chasing 64, Jonty and Will got the Pitties moving before James added 14. Hector’s commanding 30 sealed the result as the team pushed past the target, finishing on 107. A strong home performance.

U11s Girls
The Pink Pitties travelled to Vigaro Fields to meet Souths Yellow. With wides and no-balls not re-bowled, scoring chances were limited, but the girls made every run count. C. Green led the way with four singles, supported by E. Brazil (5), A. Baker, G. Green and others contributing to a total of 49.

With the ball, the Pitties lifted again. Leg-spinner G. Green took 2–16, A. Baker hit middle stump, and F. Gallagher snared a superb caught-and-bowled. Tight bowling from C. Goldspink and sharp wicketkeeping from Neal and Glindemann (just one bye) capped off the effort. Souths finished on 113, but the Pitties showed huge improvement.

U11s Mixed
The new Mixed Pitties squad played their first official match, with Brothers providing two fill-ins. Batting first, L. Sander (12), N. Garraway (17) and L. Wilkinson (10) laid a solid platform, helping the side reach 98.

With the ball, Sander led with 3–24, Garraway claimed 1–6 and Wilkinson added another breakthrough. Mead bowled tightly and delivered a run out, while the keeping combination conceded only four byes. Brothers finished on 124, but the Mixed Pitties showed excellent promise.

U12s

The Pitbull pups travelled to Bucasia to meet Norths. Captain Spencer chose to bat, and openers Henry (47*) and Thomas (40) set a strong tone. Contributions from Blake, Lilly, John and Nate pushed the total to an imposing 5–160.

With the ball, Patrick opened tightly before Blake, Thomas, Lilly and John shared the wickets. Strong fielding held Norths to 5–113, securing a two-game winning streak.

U13s
At home against Sarina, the Pitties opened well with J. Smith taking 2–26 and Z. Cale adding 1–12. M. Hope delivered the highlight—a hat-trick on his way to 4–6—while Brazil added a wicket. Sarina posted 103.

C. Edgerton top-scored with 20, but despite efforts from Hearn, Smith and Brazil, the Pitties were dismissed for 56. Plenty of positives, including a memorable hat-trick.

U14s
Against Sarina at Harrup Park, B. Hetherington (32) and K. Whitty (23) led the Pitties to 144. With ball in hand, S. Green dominated with 4–18, supported by Manley (2–24) and Dibben (1–5). Sarina reached 113, giving the Pitties a solid win.

U15s
At Mirani, the Pitties struck early with B. Hope removing a batter first ball. L. and E. Smith then combined for six wickets between them. Strong catching saw Walkerston dismissed for 128.

R. Davies produced a maiden half-century (50*), supported by Marshall (26) and Hope (19*), to guide the team to 7–141 and a confident win.

U17s
Back at home, the U17s posted 5–213 thanks to M. Logan (54), M. Gabey (37), J. Valmadre (22) and J. Geisler (33*). With the ball, M. Pomeroy shone with 4–10, supported by O. Seamer (2–17). Brothers were bowled out for 27, sealing a dominant victory.

Tuesday afternoon winners came out on Rink 5, with Frank Gordon, Querro, Sue Shearing and Alby Vigar defeating Bron Tolcher, Deb Retchless and Laurie Land. In the other game, Shirley Jones and Cliff Queero defeated Irene Laird and Gavin Charles. The jackpot didn’t go off.

Congratulations to Penny Warren, who has been named North Queensland Ladies District Bowler of the Year, and to Denise Wallace, who finished a close runner-up. Penny will receive her award in February.

The last of the men’s competitions was played this week. The Final of the Fours was won by Bill Myers, Laurie Land, Mark Drummond and Allan Rolfe, who defeated Lloyd White, Gavin Charles, Kevin Daniels and Steve Roome. The game could not have been any closer, with an extra end required to decide the result. Well done, gentlemen.

Sunday’s social play winners were Lindy Suann and Greg Colquhoun, who defeated Deb Retchless and Penny Warren. In other matches, Celly Jeal, Gavin Charles and Pat Tracey defeated Cliff Querro, Jim Quodd and Mark Drummond, and Gordon Querro, Alby Vigar and Allan Rolfe defeated Bill Myers, Graeme Read and Stuart Jeal. The jackpot didn’t go off.

This Saturday, 22 November, Wangaratta will host a Free Come & Try afternoon. Play runs from 1.30pm to 3.30pm. Come along for some fun — it’s open to all ages, the shade will be out, the bar will be open, and afternoon tea will be provided.
