History was made on Saturday 17th October, when Airlie Beach Cricket Club’s mixed Under 11 side took to the field in the Mackay Junior Cricket competition.
It marked the first time a junior cricket team had represented Airlie Beach and the surrounding suburbs in the competition, a proud milestone following years of planning and hard work by the club’s dedicated committee.
The junior side gives local girls and boys another opportunity to develop their skills and represent their home club. Young players can now progress from the grassroots Blaster program into junior cricket, with opportunities to continue in the senior Mackay grade competitions or enjoy the club’s local social team.
ABCC is the only club in the area to offer this full pathway, with more exciting plans ahead. The club is working towards establishing a ladies’ team and a turf cricket wicket at Whitsunday Sportspark.
The club thanked everyone who had supported its journey, including Cricket Australia, Queensland Cricket, Cannonvale State School, its loyal sponsors, the local community and members of its cricketing family.
