Collinsville residents gathered for the annual Miners Memorial ceremony, remembering the seven men killed in the Collinsville State Mine disaster on 13 October 1954.

‍

At 5.50pm, the siren rang out in remembrance of the seven miners killed 72 years earlier. The ceremony also honoured those who went underground to rescue their fellow workers, with Brett Murphy sharing their story and then unveiling a new plaque in recognition of their courage.

‍

Local school students and Collinsville Youth Coalition members joined the commemoration, supported by Collinsville Workers’ Club and volunteers, helping carry the tradition forward together.

‍

“Well done to the Collinsville Workers' Club, the volunteers and everyone who continues to make this memorial possible each year,” said Mayor Ry Collins.

“It’s important stories like these get told.”

‍

“It was particularly good to see younger generations involved tonight, including students from our local schools and the Collinsville Youth Coalition, helping ensure this history and tradition continues.”
