Cupcakes With A Side Of Kindness

A young Mackay baker has spent part of her school holidays giving back to the community, bringing a batch of homemade cupcakes to the Mackay City Girl Guides for visitors to enjoy.

‍

Dundulla Primary School Year 5 student Healey baked and decorated the iced cupcakes herself before taking them along to the Girl Guides, where the Orange Sky laundry was open.

‍

The cupcakes were shared among those visiting, with Healey heading home with empty containers after her homemade treats were enjoyed.

The visit was a welcome one for the community members who regularly attend the Orange Sky laundry, where food provides an opportunity for people to come together, have a conversation and feel welcomed.

‍

For some visitors, the time spent at the laundry may be their only social interaction, making the chance to sit down, share food and connect with others an important part of the service.

‍

Sausage sizzles and meals are made available through community donations, along with the time and effort of volunteers who help make them possible.

Healey’s visit added another contribution to the community effort, with her cupcakes providing a treat for those attending during the school holidays.

‍

Her visit also highlighted how young people can contribute to their community by sharing their own skills and giving their time to others.

‍

For Healey, it was a chance to put something she enjoys doing to good use, while giving the Mackay City Girl Guides community a welcome school holiday treat!
