Share the Dignity’s August drive saw great generosity from the community, with a range of sanitary products set to be distributed to two local charities:
Whitsunday Counselling and Whitsunday Housing Company.
The Woolworths collection points saw 78 products being donated, but one kind local more than doubled the supply with a whopping donation - Kelly Walker, a Proserpine-based Personal Trainer. “Every product helps in going towards assisting those in need in our community,” said Share The Dignity Volunteer Emma Anderson.
“It is of tremendous help to the work of Share the Dignity when the community comes together, like Kelly's studio and Woollies’ patrons. It shows the kindness of strangers.” Kelly’s donation, and those dropped off by Whitsunday shoppers, will all go toward providing much needed supplies to local women in need, making a stand against period poverty and working to ensure that all women have the right to dignity regardless of their circumstances.
Because, as the charity highlights, when someone is doing it tough, the last thing on their mind should be dealing with their period.
