Mackay State High School students kicked off Mental Health Week by sharing messages of positivity and hope through a creative ‘Chalk the Pavement’ activity.
Students were encouraged to use their creativity to write uplifting messages for others who may be doing it tough, helping spread awareness and promote positive mental health across the school community.
The school also welcomed a special visitor from Run For MI Life, with the event’s Minion mascot stopping by to promote this weekend’s fun run at the Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens.
Held annually in honour of Mathew Ivory, who the community lost to suicide in 2012, the event was established by founder Jo Shanks and her family to raise awareness and funds for suicide prevention and mental health initiatives across the region.

Participants can register to run or walk 3km, 5km or 10km, either individually or as part of a team, with dogs also welcome. Mackay State High School staff have already entered a team.
A wellbeing fair will follow the run, giving community members the opportunity to connect with local support services.
The event welcomes runners, walkers, volunteers and community members keen to show their support for mental health and suicide prevention in the Mackay region.
The run will be held on Sunday 18th October at Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens.
