Mackay will come alive with music this weekend as 135 talented young musicians from more than 20 schools converge at Mackay North State High School for the State Honours Ensemble Program.
Running from Friday to Sunday, the intensive program will give regional students the opportunity to work with highly regarded specialist conductors and musicians without having to travel away from the region for the same level of specialist tuition.
Delivered by the Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University, the weekend will see students rehearse across three ensembles; band, strings and vocal, under visiting specialists Sharelle Guest, Mark Sullivan and Dr Anthony Young.
A Grand Finale Concert will be held on Sunday 30th August in Mackay North State High School’s Assembly Hall. The event is free for the public to attend, with a gold coin donation appreciated.
The State Honours Ensemble Program has been running since 2001 and has involved more than 45,000 students from more than 2,000 schools.
