Arthur McManus and Steve Lawrie have added another trophy to the club’s collection after winning the Champion of Champions B Pairs at West Tigers over the weekend.
The pair defeated North Mackay before overcoming Mackay Bowls Club 20–17 in the semifinal. Facing West Tigers on their home green in the decider, McManus and Lawrie delivered a masterclass to claim the title 22–18.
It was a proud result for the club, with the pair celebrating victory over their district rivals after a successful weekend on the green. Their efforts provided the highlight of a busy week, with close margins and improving players featuring across the club’s social competitions.
Tuesday afternoon’s social bowls attracted 16 players, with Margo Stanley skipping Dawn Dowell and Sue Dakin to the lucky winning team prize. John Brown, Wendy Pomeroy and Des Ballance finished second.
Wednesday’s competition, organised by Mervyn Stewart, saw the highest winning margin restricted to eight shots. Skipper Rick Galea, second Liam and lead Ronnie L combined well to take the honours. Ronnie’s weekly practice sessions continue to show in her improving performances.
Laurie Horkings claimed Saturday morning’s Scroungers competition, continuing his strong improvement this season, while John Askew collected the B Division prize.
Askew returned to the winner’s circle on Sunday afternoon, skipping Sue Dakin and Lu Rogan to victory.
Assistant club manager Ruby Butler organised the afternoon, earning recognition for her work keeping the club’s bowls activities running smoothly.
