Moranbah residents are being urged to remain vigilant after a local business reported receiving a suspected counterfeit $50 note.

The note was reported to police on Monday 12th October, after being received by a business on St Francis Drive. Moranbah Police subsequently seized the banknote for investigation.

Police said the note appeared to be missing visible security features and did not have the same feel as genuine Australian currency, raising suspicions it was counterfeit.

Residents who suspect they have been handed counterfeit money are advised to refuse the note if it is safe to do so.

Anyone who comes across a suspected counterfeit banknote should handle it as little as possible, place it in an envelope and record any relevant details about how it came into their possession.

The matter should then be reported to Queensland or Federal Police through Policelink on 131 444 or online at police.qld.gov.au/reporting.
