The Colts have made a winning start to their rugby union journey, defeating Moranbah 18–7 in their first game at Proserpine High School.
For a young side still learning the rules and finding their feet, the result offered plenty to celebrate and an encouraging glimpse of what could lie ahead.
Coach Rhys Ward said the players’ effort and willingness to embrace the challenge made the occasion particularly rewarding.
“I couldn’t be prouder of the boys and the effort they put in against Moranbah,” he said.
“For a group of young players who are still learning the game, finding their feet and getting an understanding of how rugby works, to come away with an 18–7 win is an awesome achievement.”
Beyond the scoreboard, Rhys was pleased with the confidence and teamwork beginning to take shape.
“What impressed me most was their willingness to listen, learn and have a crack,” he said.
“They’re starting to build confidence in themselves and trust in each other, and that’s exactly what I want to see as their coach.”
With their first win secured, the Colts now have something to build on as they continue developing together.
“They should all be extremely proud of themselves,” Rhys said.
