Wangaratta bowlers celebrated the club’s 70th anniversary on Sunday, with members and visitors enjoying social bowls and a special afternoon tea.
Relatives of founding members who play at Wangaratta shared stories of the club’s beginnings. Neil Tracey and Isobel Wheeler had the honour of cutting the anniversary cake, while heavy rain during the break made for a cooler afternoon.
Sunday’s winners were Teresa Willshire, Shane Milton and Greg Colquhoun over Neale Chittenden, Skin Querro and Penny Warren; Celly Jeal, Alby Vigar and Bev Bint over Bill Myers, Sue Shearing and Pat Tracey; and Lindy Suann, Gavin Charles and Stuart Jeal over Sharyn Cadman, Laurie Land and Darryl Bint.

Isobel Wheeler and Kevin Jewell defeated Jocelyn Defranciscis and Graeme Read, while Toni Bowen, Deb Retchless and Allan Rolfe beat M Porter, Jim Quod and Fely Duncan.
Saturday’s Mixed Fours final was a close affair, with Allan Rolfe, Penny Warren, Denise Wallace and Teresa Willshire defeating Laurie Land, Linda Scells, Deb Retchless and Lindy Suann.
Tuesday’s social winners were Skin Querro and Greg Colquhoun over Alex Beaumont and Kevin Jewell, while Neale Chittenden, Gavin Charles and Pat Tracey defeated Sharyn Cadman, Deb Retchless and Penny Warren.
Neither jackpot went off, leaving a tidy sum available.
