It is expected that a record-breaking amount of mango sorbet will be sold at the Bowen Information Centre before the end of the 2023 financial year. In the 2021-22 financial year, the Big Mango sold 18.5 thousand mango sorbets to visitors, and it is estimated to sell 20 thousand before June 30.

MACKAY native Ky Hamilton has registered the biggest win of his professional bull riding career after picking up $67,750 for claiming the prestigious RodeoHouston Bull Riding title in the United States. The 23-year-old Hamilton – who grew up in the Sugar capital and attended Mercy College – capped an impressive performance with a 90.5-point ride on his bull Bad Memory in a special ride-off with Josh Frost and Creek Young to seal the top prize.

Thursday Scroungers was played with 15 players with Whare Herewini def Karina Dunn in the final. A weekend of Men’s Pennants was played with home and away games with wins to all our teams.

Madge Holmes was born on the 8th February, 1913 at Nurse Fraser’s home, positioned near the water tower in Proserpine. When she was eighteen, she worked at the Mt Alma Private Hospital at Charters Tower which was run by her aunt. In 1932, at the age of 19, she started three years training at the Charters Towers General Hospital.
