The Quota Club of Whitsunday Inc. invites the community to Father Tom Gard Centre, St Catherine’s School on Sunday, March 26, to raise monies for resources and equipment at the local nursing home and for Dementia Australia research.

Whitsunday Regional Councillor Mike Brunker was fined $500 at last Wednesday’s ordinary meeting for the “misuse of Council resources” during the previous Mayoral Election. Mr Brunker was found to have breached Council Policy by listing his Council email address on his mayoral candidacy Facebook page during the by-election of July – August 2022, equating to an “unauthorised use of Council resources”.

Whilst increasing full and more frequent flights are bringing a steady stream of longer term visitors, 17 cruise ships in the last few weeks have inundated Airlie Beach with day trippers coming ashore and spending up big. The combination has resulted in a fantastic February trade for the many small businesses in Airlie who traditionally suffer a significant downturn at this time of year.

Sorry Tree To Be Planted For First Nations Of The Whitsundays

Aged care and disability service provider Feros Care, an Australian not-for-profit with operations in Bowen, plans to install the 'Sorry Tree' for National Sorry Day on May 26 in a three-stage project.

‘Delta, Meet Delta’: Airlie Local Stars As Goodrem In New Film

A lucky Airlie Beach local was chosen to portray the young version of Delta Goodrem in the upcoming Netflix movie ‘Love Is In The Air’ currently filming in the Whitsundays. Proserpine State High School student Lola Keyte was picked by producers to play a young version of Goodrem’s character Dana Randall, a seaplane pilot flying the tropic who finds herself falling for the man sent to sink her business.

Food Is In The Air

Local Caterers, Simply Yum, were asked to provide breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea to the Love Is In The Air cast and crew which consisted of 50 people. Owners Kristel and Ivan Risteski were on-site every day with their food van which was able to travel between destinations and supply hot food whenever filming paused.

Calling Bowen’s Young Singers

A Bowen venue is offering local up-and-coming musicians the chance to turn their passion into a career with a Young Talent Program to get them “starting gigging”. The Original North Australian hopes to provide an “opportunity for young talent in our community to build on their confidence and performing ability.” The Talent Program hopes to entice 17- to 30-year-old artists – either solo performers or duets – to perform at the local pub by giving them the “perfect platform” to begin.

Greatest Shave At The Grand View

Six staff members from the Grand View Hotel in Bowen are participating in this year’s Greatest Shave and everyone in the community is invited to come along and cheer them on. The 2023 World’s Greatest Shave marks the 25th year of one of Australia’s most iconic fundraising events - over two million people have taken part since its inception and an estimated 39,000 kilograms of hair has been removed.
