Cheers And Beers For CiteHire Launch

April 3, 2025

CiteHire, the latest addition to the Cite Group of companies, officially launched in Mackay last Friday with a celebration that brought together family, friends, suppliers, subcontractors, and clients. The lively event featured live music, delicious food, and drinks, creating a vibrant atmosphere to mark the beginning of a new chapter for the region’s equipment hire industry.

CiteHire is a locally owned and family-operated equipment hire provider, servicing Mackay, the Whitsundays, Bowen Basin, and Townsville. With over 10 years of experience in the hire industry, the company aims to provide tailored solutions for a wide range of projects, from residential and commercial construction to large-scale civil works and mining infrastructure. Whether the project is big or small, CiteHire offers the right equipment to meet clients' specific needs, timeframes, and budgets.

CiteHire is the latest business in the expanding Cite Group, founded by Brad and Bec Gardner. The group started with CiteCon, a construction business, and has since evolved to include multiple ventures. With the launch of CiteHire, the Gardners are bringing their vision for high-quality, customer-focused service to the equipment hire market.

"From day one, we’ve built Cite Group with a strong emphasis on quality, integrity, and community support, and CiteHire follows that same philosophy," said Bec Gardner.

"We are excited to offer a service that brings flexibility, reliability, and a personal touch to equipment hire across a wide range of industries."

CiteHire’s primary focus is on providing top-quality equipment for a variety of industries. The company serves both residential and commercial clients, offering equipment that ranges from basic tools for home handymen to large civil and mining machinery for major infrastructure projects.

"Whether you’re a DIY enthusiast working on a small project or a contractor managing a large civil works site, we have the right equipment to get the job done efficiently and safely," Bec added.

CiteHire understands the importance of not only supplying the right machinery but also ensuring its timely availability and maintenance, so clients can focus on the job at hand. The team’s expertise and commitment to service excellence are what truly set them apart in the competitive hire industry.

Although the focus of the event was on celebrating the launch of CiteHire, the night also highlighted the strength of the community relationships that the Gardners and their team have fostered over the years. Local contractors, suppliers, and industry professionals gathered to show their support for the new business, with many expressing excitement about the fresh approach to equipment hire in the Mackay region.

"We’ve had such great feedback from our clients and suppliers, and we’re excited to continue building these relationships as we grow," said Mel Cook, CiteHire’s Business Development Manager.

"It’s all about working together to get the best results for our customers, and we’re looking forward to providing solutions that make a real difference for local businesses."

The launch of CiteHire marks the beginning of an exciting journey for the Cite Group. As the company continues to expand its operations, the focus will remain on providing high-quality equipment and exceptional service to clients across a range of industries.

Simplify Your Kitchen Routine With These One-Pot Wonders

April 3, 2025

One-pot wonders are a game-changer in the kitchen, offering a perfect solution for busy weeknights or when you want to minimise clean-up. These meals are simple, flavourful, and packed with comfort, all cooked in a single pot. The beauty of a one-pot meal is that you can throw everything together, let it simmer, and enjoy a delicious dish with minimal effort.

One-pot meals work for a wide range of tastes and dietary preferences, from hearty stews to light pasta dishes, and everything in between. They save time without compromising on flavour, making them ideal for both small families and large gatherings. Here are a few ideas for one-pot wonders that are sure to become favourites in your kitchen.

1. One-Pot Chicken and Rice

This is a classic, filling dish that’s perfect for a cozy dinner. Simply brown some chicken thighs, sauté onions and garlic, then add rice, chicken broth, and your choice of veggies. Let everything cook together, and in less than 30 minutes, you’ll have a delicious meal. Add herbs like thyme or rosemary for extra flavour, and feel free to toss in some peas or carrots for added colour and nutrition.

2. One-Pot Pasta Primavera

For a lighter, veggie-packed meal, try a one-pot pasta primavera. Sauté garlic and colourful vegetables like zucchini, bell peppers, and cherry tomatoes in a bit of olive oil, then add your choice of pasta and vegetable broth. Let it all cook together, and you'll have a tasty dish with minimal effort. It’s a great way to sneak in extra servings of vegetables while still enjoying the comfort of pasta.

3. One-Pot Chilli

Chilli is perfect for a one-pot meal, especially in cooler months. Brown some ground beef then add beans, diced tomatoes, and your favourite chilli spices. Let it simmer for about 30 minutes, and you’ll have a rich, hearty meal that’s perfect for feeding a crowd. Top with cheese, sour cream, and cilantro for the ultimate chilli experience.

4. One-Pot Vegetarian Stew

For a plant-based option, try a one-pot vegetable stew. Combine potatoes, carrots, celery, onions, and canned tomatoes with vegetable broth and your favourite herbs. This warm, comforting stew is easy to make and full of wholesome ingredients. It’s a great option for vegetarians and those looking to enjoy a lighter, yet nourishing meal.

One-pot wonders take the stress out of cooking and clean-up, allowing you to enjoy a delicious meal without the hassle. Whether you’re craving something meaty, vegetarian, or light, there’s a one-pot dish for every occasion!

Purple For Purpose

Stop The Violence, End The Silence

By Hannah Mcnamara

Business owners, regional leaders, and Rotary members gathered at Ocean International last Tuesday, united in their mission to break the silence on domestic violence. Dressed in purple, attendees stood in solidarity, symbolising hope for a future free from violence. While we know change takes time, the focus remains on educating future generations and fostering respect among men, women, and children to create a safer society.

The room fell silent as DVF Project Manager Michael Buckeridge shared a sobering statistic of 134 domestic violence cases recorded in a single day.

"There are thousands of men and women suffering from this," he said.

"Thankfully, we have fantastic organisations picking up the broken pieces… but we need your help.

"We want businesses and community members to wear these purple shirts and start conversations – in their workplaces, in their schools, and amongst their friends.

"We need to reach young people – the young men in schools – to teach them respect.

“To me, respect is worth more than gold."

The Rotary Domestic & Family Violence Prevention Program continues to expand, with all 12 Mackay high schools now officially on board. Betterment Project presenters will visit from May 12–16, delivering powerful messages to students.

Momentum is building for the "Respect In Every Step: March To End Domestic Violence" on May 30, with Kinetic Buses generously covering half the transport costs. So far, 580 students have committed to the march, and the crowd is expected to surpass 1,000 participants.

The upcoming Bravus Breakfast at Ocean International on May 29 has already exceeded expectations, with 206 students and teachers confirmed to attend.

Sponsorship packages are available, giving businesses an opportunity to support the cause while receiving 40 shirts and a branded pull-up banner.

Visit www.rotarymackay.org.au/index.php/dv/ to learn more.

“We hope that May will be a month of awareness, action, and conversations that matter.”

Damian Mullins is Elvis Presley

March 27, 2025

Get ready for an unforgettable Elvis experience at the Airlie Beach Hotel this April! Australian Elvis tribute artist Damian Mullins will be performing not one, but two incredible shows that will transport you straight to the heart of the King of Rock and Roll’s most iconic eras. If you’re an Elvis fan, this is a weekend you won’t want to miss!

Damian’s journey to becoming one of Australia’s top Elvis tribute artists began with a childhood love for the King’s music. "As a young boy, my mum loved his music, she would play it when we travelled in the car. That's how I was exposed to his music, and ever since then, I have just loved his songs," Damian shares. His passion for Elvis (and jumpsuit collection) has grown over the years, and he continues to bring the legendary performer’s spirit to life on stage with every stunning performance.

In 2012 he won the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest, a competition endorsed by Elvis Presley Enterprises. From that moment, his career as a full-time Elvis tribute artist took off and now, he’s bringing his electrifying shows to Airlie Beach for the first time ever!

The weekend kicks off with the Aloha From Hawaii show, a breathtaking tribute to Elvis’s legendary 1973 concert broadcast live via satellite. The ‘Aloha From Hawaii’ concert is one of those iconic moments in Elvis’s career, and Damien captures that amazing concert’s magic and grandeur. With a stunning live band and spectacular visuals, Damian will perform some of Elvis’s most memorable hits, including Burning Love, Suspicious Minds, and Can't Help Falling in Love. Be ready to expect a high-energy performance that will have you singing and dancing along.

Damian’s dedication to authenticity and his deep understanding of Elvis’s music ensures that fans of all ages will feel the magic of the King’s music. “It’s going to be a very big variety of Elvis’s music,” Damian explains, “I try to give the die-hard fans a great mix of his songs," His show isn’t just about singing as he thrives on audience interaction, ensuring that everyone feels involved in the experience.

On Sunday, Damian returns with the Elvis On Tour show, which celebrates the electrifying energy of Elvis during his prime. This show takes you on a nostalgic journey through Elvis’s most iconic tour performances, showcasing the charisma and passion that made him a global legend.

“I’m an Elvis entertainer more than an impersonator, yes, I look and sound like Elvis but I get a lot of good energy from entertaining. It’s just lots of fun,” Damian says. Any long-time Elvis fan will be swept away by the incredible energy and stage presence Damian brings to every show.

Join the fun as Damian Mullins is bringing something special to Airlie Beach Hotel with two distinct shows, each offering a unique Elvis experience, you’re guaranteed to be entertained. “He’s a Music Man, He’s a what, He’s a what? He's a Music Man!”

March 27, 2025

St Catherine’s Catholic College proudly presents Meredith Wilson’s ‘The Music Man’. Written in 1957 and standing the test of time, this musical is sure to engage even the most dubious of musical audiences. The show is a six-time, Tony Award-winning musical comedy that has been entertaining audiences since 1957 and is a family-friendly story to be shared with every generation.

The Music Man follows fast-talking travelling salesman, Harold Hill, as he cons the people of River City, Iowa, into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys' band that he promises to organise – this, despite the fact that he doesn't know one note from another. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian, the lovely librarian, who transforms him into a respectable citizen by curtain's fall.

Involving over 70 students as cast, crew and band, along with staff and community members of St Catherine’s, this musical has been a labour of love and a unique experience for all involved. Musical Director Betsy Atkinson has sung the praises of all involved and encourages as many people as possible to come along and enjoy the romance and music smorgasbord on offer in ‘The Music Man’.

“This has been such an awesome experience. The students have given this showt heir all and are so full of positive energy and talent. I have been humbled by the student and community involvement and can’t wait to show off the unique, gifted, hardworking individuals that I have the pleasure of teaching and working with” .

Our incredibly talented Music Director, Laura Robson, has been truly inspired by the students’ passion and commitment throughout the production.

“With a predominantly student-led band, this musical highlights the dedication and determination of young musicians performing at a professional level. Their skill and enthusiasm continue to amaze me at every rehearsal. It’s a true privilege to lead this orchestra and help bring our students’ musical abilities to life in a production featuring entirely live music. ”

Come and support the amazing St Catherine’s students and enjoy a night of entertainment and delight. Three evening shows and a matinee are scheduled at the PEC, with drinks available to purchase at every show. The performances provide options for everyone to enjoy this piece of musical theatre.

All Newsies Rise Up! An Energetic Musical By Proserpine State High School

March 20, 2025

Proserpine State High School is proud to present their energetic school production of Disney’s Newsies – The Broadway Musical. With more than 100 students and staff bringing this entertaining musical to life on their Performing Arts Centre stage, and many months of hard work spent perfecting lines, dance routines, and musical scores, it promises to be a show to remember!

Based on the real-life Newsboy Strike of 1899, this Disney musical tells the story of Jack Kelly, a rebellious newsboy who dreams of a life as an artist away from the big city. After publishing giant Joseph Pulitzer raises newspaper prices at the newsboys' expense, Kelly and his newsies take action. With help from the beautiful female reporter Katherine Plumber, all of New York City soon recognises the power of "the little man".

Musical Director Amelia Hinschen said a highlight from rehearsals for the musical was the broad range of talent showcased by the students.

“They are a talented and creative group of singers, dancers, musicians, and actors who put their own flair on their characters and are willing to try what will work best as a cast,” she said.

“Five of our leads are Year 12 students who want to pursue acting or musical theatre for their tertiary studies next year. For them, it’s more than an opportunity to be up on stage; it’s what they want for a career.”

Many students' skills are also shining outside the spotlight, as they construct props, sew costumes, paint sets, prepare the technical side of the show, and assist in backstage roles.

Tickets are on sale now! Don’t miss the opportunity to support Proserpine State High School’s students and enjoy an unforgettable theatrical experience for the whole family. Shows run from Thursday 8th to Saturday 10th May, including three evening performances and one matinee on Saturday 10th May. Fish D'Vine will provide delicious food and drinks at all shows for purchase.
