Primary producers across the Mackay region impacted by severe weather, flooding and tropical cyclone events between December 2025 and April 2026 can now access disaster recovery grants of up to $75,000 to help restore their operations.
The Queensland Rural and Industry Development Authority (QRIDA) is administering the Exceptional Disaster Assistance Recovery Grants, designed to assist eligible primary producers with the costs of clean-up, repairs and reinstatement following the Queensland Monsoon Trough, Cyclone Koji, Cyclone Narelle and associated severe weather events.
Mackay Regional Council is among the local government areas declared eligible for the assistance whereby eligible producers can apply for an initial grant of up to $10,000 to begin immediate recovery work, with subsequent applications available up to a combined maximum of $65,000, bringing the total assistance available to $75,000.
The grants can be used for a wide range of recovery activities, including purchasing or hiring equipment for clean-up, repairing damaged buildings and fencing, replacing essential plant and machinery, restoring crops, purchasing fodder, replacing deceased livestock and covering additional labour costs associated with recovery efforts.
The funding is intended to help primary production enterprises recover from direct physical damage caused by the disaster events and resume normal operations as quickly as possible.
To be eligible, applicants must operate a primary production enterprise within an activated disaster area, hold a valid Australian Business Number (ABN), demonstrate direct damage from the eligible disaster event and intend to continue operating in the affected region.
QRIDA is encouraging producers who need assistance with the application process to contact its Disaster Support team, with personalised appointments and regional support available to help applicants prepare and lodge their claims.
