The Plarn Project: Crafting For A Cause
2.00pm - 4.00pm
Learn how to turn plastic bags into plarn, or plastic yarn, and crochet it into lightweight mats for people in need. No experience is required, with all skill levels welcome. Help reduce waste while creating something practical for the community through this meaningful project supporting responsible consumption and production.

Mackay Prostate Cancer Awareness Night  

5.30pm - 9.30pm Join ManUp! Australia for an informative evening raising awareness of prostate cancer and the importance of early detection, featuring guest speakers Jill and Leah Costello, Mackay Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurse Louise Jackson, members of the Prostate Cancer Support Group Mackay, a physiotherapist and other health specialists. Light supper will be served.

Satu - Year Of The Rabbit
7.30pm
Enjoy a screening of the 2024 Laos/UK film Satu - Year of the Rabbit, rated PG, following an orphan child labourer who journeys through Laos in search of his long-lost mother alongside his new photojournalist friend. The 1hr 33min film is directed by Joshua Trigg and features Lao and English with subtitles. Wine and nibbles will be served after the film.

Exhibition Floor Talk
10.30am - 11.30am
Join exhibition curator Dylan Mooney in conversation with artists Brian Robinson and Darren Blackman as they discuss their exhibitions Kulba A Kaib and Post Truth, exploring cultural knowledge, ancestral stories, contemporary visual culture, cultural practice, text-based sculpture and more. The event will be Auslan interpreted and amplified for patrons with hearing difficulties.

Sunday 4th October

Writing Sunday
11.00am - 1.00pm
A free, volunteer-led writing program for writers of all levels, offering a chance to work on your writing while connecting with fellow local writers. Sessions use the Pomodoro Technique, with focused 25-minute writing blocks and short breaks to help boost productivity and keep your writing goals on track.

Mini Cent Sale

Held in conjunction with the Sarina Country Music Family Afternoon, the mini cent sale will feature more than 50 prizes and vouchers to be won. Draw will be held from 2.30pm

Qdn Mackay Peer Support Group
First Tuesday of every month
Queenslanders with Disability Network hosts a free monthly peer support group for people with disability, offering a welcoming space to share experiences, exchange information, build connections and discuss topics that matter. No RSVP or QDN membership is required, with taxi vouchers available for transport assistance and light refreshments provided.

Mums and their bubs or young children are invited to enjoy a relaxed morning of gentle walking, mindfulness, conversation and connection along Bucasia Esplanade. Prams, babies, toddlers and all walking paces are welcome, with the free gathering also including coffee, conversation and time to connect with other local mums as part of Queensland Mental Health Week 2026.
