First Nations Business Expo Creating Connections, Driving Opportunity

Over the past years, the First Nations Business Expo and its predecessor events have become a powerful platform for showcasing Indigenous business capability, creating procurement opportunities, and strengthening connections between First Nations businesses, government and industry.

‍

Since the inception, the events have attracted more than 100 attendees annually, connected dozens of Indigenous businesses with buyers and decision-makers, and generated tangible outcomes including new supply opportunities, contract discussions, tender invitations and supplier pre-qualification pathways.

‍

A standout achievement has been the consistent level of satisfaction from participating businesses. Across the previous events, the overwhelming majority of exhibitors indicated they would participate again and recommend the event to other Indigenous businesses. Many businesses identified the Expo as a key opportunity to promote their services, build networks and access procurement opportunities that may not otherwise be available.

The 2025 First Nations Business Expo, held during Indigenous Business Month, showcased 32 First Nations businesses representing industries including construction, mining, tourism, professional services, education, health and technology. The event's procurement panel and networking opportunities provided direct access to major buyers and procurement professionals, helping businesses better understand pathways into government and corporate supply chains.

‍

Beyond the numbers, the Expo's greatest success has been its ability to create meaningful relationships. Attendees consistently reported increased awareness of Indigenous business capability, while businesses gained valuable industry contacts, new commercial opportunities and stronger connections across the region.

‍

The events have become more than a business showcase. They have evolved into a celebration of First Nations entrepreneurship, resilience and innovation, demonstrating the significant contribution Indigenous businesses make to the Mackay, Isaac and Whitsunday economy.

‍

As participation continues to grow each year, the First Nations Business Expo stands as a testament to the power of collaboration and the strength of the regional Indigenous business community, creating lasting economic opportunities and helping build a more inclusive and prosperous future for all.
