Habana Rural Fire Brigade members have been busy with training and station work, with a strong turnout for a recent training day at Shoal Point.

The brigade completed familiarisation training with its four-wheel-drive appliance before new volunteers prepared for their basic firefighter assessments.

‍

Training included standpipe handling, hydrant and fill pump familiarisation, as well as a truck hose down.

Members then returned to the station to complete appliance checks, while others stayed behind to help erect the station sign after it had been removed while the new concrete driveway was completed.

‍

With bushfire season approaching, the brigade has also reminded local residents to take care when preparing their properties.

Residents requiring assistance from Habana Rural Fire Brigade with burning are asked to contact First Officer Dave Stewart on 0411 078 648 beforehand.

‍

The brigade advised that all fires above 2m x 2m x 2m require a fire permit and encouraged residents to check the fire warden details on the QFD website for the appropriate contact number in their area, or contact their local fire brigade.

‍

Residents are reminded to stay safe over summer, with the brigade warning that it only takes a spark to start a fire.

‍

All fires should be reported by calling 000.
