A local service organisation will be hosting a fundraiser in late July, raising money for the humanitarian crisis evolving in Ukraine.
The ZONTA Club of Whitsundays are hosting the United Nations Long lunch to be held at the Whitsunday Marine Club (VMR) on the July 30, starting at 12noon.
ZONTA committee member and organiser of the event, Betty Whitehorn, said an international theme will be followed through on all levels.
“Commencing with a welcoming vodka shot, or a soft drink if preferred on arrival, followed by fabulous international cuisine and entertainment,” Ms Whitehorn said.
“Guests are asked to dress up in a national costume or wear blue and yellow - the colours of the Ukrainian flag.”
Throughout the event Ms Whitehorn said there will be a multitude of raffles, including Hampers filled with international food and wine, a lucky door prize, best dressed prizes for both men and women and an auction – which includes a Port Douglas Holiday donated by Astrid Bourke from Luxury Holidays.
“All money raised will go toward helping the women and children in Ukraine, through ZONTA International channels,” Ms Whitehorn said.
“In the beautiful Whitsundays, we are so fortunate; let us share our luck and prosperity and get together with open hearts, not only to have a fabulous day, but to support Ukrainian women and children whose lives are in upheaval.”
Tickets are only $65 and are selling fast, available at Whitsunday tickets under the name Zonta ‘s United Nations Long Lunch.
