Mixed Foursomes Championship Trophy Event

10 teams contested the Whitsunday Golf Club (WGC) Foursomes championship (over 18 holes) in very cool conditions last Sunday, particularly cool for the early starters with a brisk cool breeze which blew up during the morning for the later starters on the last few holes. Not to be daunted though, the hardy WGC players kept their jumpers on and played through.

Record $75,000 Grant To Support Homeless

Australian Street Aid Project were the recipients of a record $75,000 grant at last Friday’s annual Mackay Community Foundation (MCF) grant presentation in the Jubilee Community Centre. The sizeable grant, the largest issued to date in MCF’s twenty-year history, will assist in funding the PINK Sleepbus for Mackay. Dianne Smith, Client Services Manager of ASAP, accepted the $75,000 certificate from MCF Board Member Ian Joblin and said the funding would provide an option for females and children

New Beginning Ends In Tragedy

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating a fatal, single vehicle crash on the Bruce Highway, two kilometres south of the Waverley Creek rest area. 90 Stranded Passengers Spend Night At Whitsunday Airport

Almost one hundred passengers were left stranded at Whitsunday Coast Airport on Tuesday evening after their Jetstar flight was cancelled due to an engineering issue.With limited local accommodation options due to already high occupancy rates over the school holidays, the passengers were left with nowhere to stay.Fortunately, our local community-owned and Council-operated airport were able to provide them with a “safe and dry” place to stay for the night.

Biggest Morning Tea

Tourist Winched From Remote Reef

A New Zealand man, who became unwell whilst snorkelling, was airlifted to safety from Hardy Reef last week and taken to Mackay Base Hospital in a stable condition.The 59-year-old man had been swimming at the popular tourist destination which is located 80km north-east of Airlie Beach.
