Umbrellas were up and spirits remained high as Mackay’s Global Grooves Festival brought a celebration of culture and diversity to Queens Park last weekend, despite wet weather disrupting the original plans.

While the conditions created some uncertainty around the event and prompted several vendors to withdraw on the day, those who made it along were determined to enjoy the occasion.
The festival may not have unfolded quite as organisers had initially planned, with not all scheduled performers and activities going ahead, but the rain did little to dampen the enthusiasm of those who attended.

Visitors were still able to enjoy a taste of Mackay’s multicultural community, with cultural performances, food, entertainment and opportunities to celebrate the many backgrounds that make up the region.
The event provided an opportunity for local cultural groups and community members to come together, share traditions and showcase their heritage, with colourful umbrellas becoming part of the day's scenery.

Despite the challenging weather, organisers and those involved in delivering the festival were acknowledged for pushing ahead and creating an opportunity for the community to connect.
One attendee summed up the occasion as a “Great atmosphere and absolutely enjoyable day”, praising the organisers, performers, production crew and food vendors for bringing the community together to celebrate multiculturalism despite the wet weather.
