A 42-night holiday in Bali has become an unforeseeable ordeal for 72-year-old Cannonvale local John Lyle, who suddenly lost the ability to walk and is now fighting to recover and return home.
John and his partner Kate were travelling through the Gili Islands in May when a series of falls was followed by rapidly worsening numbness and mobility loss.
After their travel insurance claim was rejected on the grounds that John’s condition was pre-existing – a decision Kate strongly disputes – the couple are seeking support, searching for a way to bring a lightweight wheelchair to Bali to help John on his recovery.
