Perfect weather greeted more than 30 participants for the first Shawn’s Splash n Dash Social Summer Series, part of the Mackay Road Runners’ 2026/2027 off-season program.
Race Director Jim Ford once again dedicated his time and efforts to organising the event, held at the internationally accredited Aquatic & Recreational Complex (ARC) at Ooralea.
Competitors aged from five to over 60 took part, with participants enjoying a supportive and social atmosphere both on the track and in the pool.
Mackay Road Runners members and non-members are welcome to attend the weekly sessions from 4.30pm to 5.30pm. Participants are encouraged to bring family, friends and workmates along for a social fitness session during the off-season.
The informal training sessions provide an opportunity to mix up training routines, maintain fitness and support participation in a variety of sporting pursuits while the formal Mackay Road Runners season and many other regional sporting activities are in recess.
Training is free, although a $5 entry fee to the ARC facility must be paid at the pool kiosk before accessing the track and pool. A gold coin donation is also appreciated for post-session Zooper Doopers.
