Zonta Is Sewing For Comfort

The sewing team at the Zonta Club of the Whitsundays has put its needles to work, creating specially shaped breast cancer cushions for women recovering from mastectomy surgery.

Made during a recent club working bee, the cushions are designed to provide comfort and support during recovery, helping to ease pressure around the chest and underarm following surgery.

‍

Ahead of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the finished cushions will be distributed through Proserpine and Mackay hospitals to women who may need them.

“It’s one of the quieter things we do as a club, but also one of the most meaningful,” said club president, Marlene Reiffel.

“Our working bees give us the chance to come together, enjoy each other’s company and create something practical that can make a difficult time just a little more comfortable for someone in our community.”

For more than 100 years, Zonta International has worked to support women and girls, with the Whitsundays club continuing that legacy locally with initiatives such as this one.
