Five decades of community connection were officially celebrated over morning tea as the Whitsunday Leisure Activity Centre opened its 50th anniversary celebrations this past Monday.
The gathering brought locals together to reflect on the Centre’s history and recognise those who had helped it grow into an important part of the Whitsundays community.
Past and present supporters were acknowledged, with particular appreciation for the volunteers whose contributions had helped sustain the Centre across the years.
“It was wonderful to hear more about the history of the Centre and the many people, volunteers and supporters who have helped it grow into such an important part of our community over five decades,” said Mayor of the Whitsundays, Ry Collins.
The opening marked the beginning of a week dedicated to celebrating the milestone and welcoming the wider community through its doors.
The anniversary wouldn’t have stopped at this morning tea, as opportunities to visit throughout the week, with a twilight market scheduled for Friday 30th October keep the centre buzzing
